  • Wife drives truck off trailer w/o ramps!!!

Brought the 47 home without much trouble. Both the radiator and fuel tank leaks, but we got the M fired up and drove it on the trailer. Got it home and unchained but we didn't quite like how it lined up to garage. My buddie is gonna reline it up, so I was going to jump inside to apply brake if needed.

This is when things go bad. Wife reminds me (and neighbors who are watching) that this is her truck and she would like to help unload it.
Being the loving husband that I am I help her up on the trailer and open the door for her. All you gotta do his hold the brake down honey and everything will be fine. Then Rico realighns the truck and to my horror the M is rolling off the trailer. Hit the brakes I yell, pump them!! and the M slowly rolls off the trailer (about a foot drop).
Julie yells out "I'm pumping them but it won't stop. After the truck stops I open the door and she is still pumpin the CLUTCH PEDAL.By the way she has driven a stick for YEARS! Amazingly it doesn't appear to be damaged except the hood sprung. I'll look at things in the light of tomorrow.
Just had to share this story with you fellas.

Great story, since no one was hurt.
The truck can always be fixed. Just be glad you have a wife
that likes cars/trucks, too. Down the road I'm sure you'll
have alot of laughs about it.

Wow looks like the running boards would have hung up or at least the front bumper would have hit on the way down.
Look out Ford! Studebakers are "One Tough Truck" too.[}]
Hope enjoy a lot of fine M Series miles....I know I do![]

You have to love 'em don't you. I had a simialr experience when I asked my wife to help me bleed the brakes of my old '54 Champion. 'Now just slowly pump the pedal to the floor and hold..... I know , I know,, I'm not some dump chick you know. OK ok. When under the car...OK pump the pedal..is it to the floor yet? I ask..yes comes the reply. I check the master cyclinder, hmmmm still full... OK do it again...hmmm still no fluid coming out the bleed nipple.. Check the master cylinder again... now this is spooky..I'm think noooo, what sort of devilment is this..Try it again honey..OK...then I look back under the car from the front and see the cluthc pedal arm moving down.

Ok honey thank you. See I can help you when asked..I give a feeble smile as she goes upstairs. I later got my son to help. It would have been just too painful to tell her what she had been doing.

While I'm have a little shot at the fairer sex. Has anyone else notice how long they take to get out of a car?? What is that all about. I really noticed it when the central locking toggle failed on the Falcon and I had to lock the doors with the key, waiting until 'she who must be obeyed' go out. Maybe it's just me[:I]

If we didn't have keys to put back in a handbag, packages to pick up, that handbag to pick up, and sometimes heeled shoes that have to be set correctly to the ground (so you don't break an ankle), we would get out of the car as fast as guys who are wearing sneakers, have their money in a wallet that is in their pocket, and are wearing pants that will not catch on the door handles.
Tell you what. We will put you in a long skirt, high heels, give you a box on the seat to carry out, and a bag to go with it, and then take a stopwatch to your time to get out of the car.

Not a Stude story, but brought back memories of 30 years ago when my wife could not get her Datsun 510 to start after it stalled. Of course 3 strong handsome guys come to the pretty young blonde's rescue. Trying to push her across a 6 lane intersection to unblock traffic, one yells to her "why is this thing so heavy...have you got your foot on the clutch...did you put the trans in 'N'....have you got your foot on the brake????" Every question my wife answered with a shout back to the boys "no, no, no and no". So these guys grunt the car across the intersection, my wife thanks them, manages to finally get the pos to start, goes to take off, stalls the car only to realize that she had the park brake fully engaged! If you ever wonder where the blonde stereo-type developed...Junior

When I'm at my monthly Cross Dressers meeting, in my figure hugging long skirt and 5" pumps, carrying the clubs books, and the cake for after meeting coffee, I still manage to get out of the car in under 30 seconds from pulling up. Must be a boy thing (So no one sees me[:0])

                  Sorry aenthal, only kidding.

This truck came from west central Ohio. PO bought it at farm auction11 years ago, but never drove it (also owns 40 Dodge, 57 Lincoln and 73 Eldorado). Told me he put 200 miles on it the whole time.

Amazingly there isn't any rust to be found, not even on the frame. No way could I have turned it down. Paid 5k for it and got a spare engine and hood also. I just wish Dad was still around. He got the Stude bug in 1972 and had literally dozens of them. He'd be proud that someone in his family is driving Studes. Sadly neither of my siblings has caught the bug, but there's still time

Several years ago I forgot to put the ramps down on the trailer
and I backed a new Corvette off , no damage to anything but my pride.
