Well the Girls this week just wanted attention. Earlier in the week it was Mabel and her Gas Gauge on Thursday evening it was Daisy's turn. Daisy is a 1954 Commander Coupe. Saturday is the Tower District Car Show with 400 plus cars just two blocks away from our house. In fact people park by our house and walk there.
Well I went out to start Daisy and nothing. Ok so I get out the battery charger and charge the battery overnight. Well the list is long on things to do before the show ,but now Daisy's Battery is on the top of that list. On 6 volt cars they crank kinda slow at least to owners of 12 volts ones. We know that they are gonna start it just doesn't sound good sometimes. Then again the slower starting comes on so gradual that you don't really pay attention to it.
Anyhow back to my adventure. The battery was purchased new (rebuilt) in July 2009 She started right up so I went to the Bank as my first stop. Next stop hop on the freeway to the Battery shop. Everything is going great she runs fantastic I get to my off ramp there is a truck in front of me the light is red. Light turns green the truck goes I push on the gas and nothing. Daisy runs so quiet I didn't even realize that she wasn't running. I tried to restart her and she would barely grunt from what I could hear from all the freeway noise.
So I put her in neutral rolled down the passenger window and it was time to push her out of the way. Now I still think that I am a teenager well maybe in my twenties. I start to push her and I get her moving out of the turn lane and headed for the side of the road cars flying around me but I'm on a mission . Have to keep pushing cause she is moving. A lady goes around me pulls to the side of the road she volunteers to help. Now mind you she has stopped her car in front of me pushing the car so that I now have to steer around her. This guy who had passed me and went around this lady pulled in the parking lot came over to help me push. I told her in the measured breath that I had that she could best help by moving her car out of the way.
With Mario's help we were able to push Daisy into a parking space at The Fresno Auto Auction. Well Mario was a great help to me I put Daisy's hood up and and then I tried to start her. Well now another problem has surfaced the reason why she died the Carburetor was flooding over. I did the normal Studebaker trick tap on the side of the Carb to free the float or needle. No luck . She was turning over really slowly too so the battery has had enough with the carb issue it wasn't going to start without that new battery.
Well Mario asked what I needed I told him that I was on my way to the Battery Exchange for them to test my battery. Well guess what ,he worked there and he was on his way to work. He went there brought me back a great 6 volt battery and an 8 volt just in case I wanted to trade up. Well while he was gone remember that long list I had well one of those things on my list was to detail the car. So using my time wisely after I disconnected the battery having it ready to lift out (Battery hold down off too). I started detailing, got the outside done then the outside glass then Mario arrived with the Battery.
Well that's when the flooding problem showed up new battery and the gas was flowing. So I didn't have but a few tools in the trunk didn't put the tool kit from Mabel in daisy. I had a few screw drivers pliers scissors black tape. Well Mario let me use his cell phone called my Husband he was on job site out of town on a hoe (backhoe) just a little humor. So I called home no answer no answering machine either, that meant someone wouldn't switch over call waiting. So I call Bruce a fellow member of the club, he ask what do I need he will come help. Well I asked him to go to the Chicken Pie shop in the Tower District and get Bob my neighbor he's 79 just like my Dad . He has Coffee there every morning. So I now knew help was on the way, so I continued to detail Daisy. She looked great by the time Bob got there, about an hour later. Bob wasn't looking forward

Glad to hear that everything's working the way it should again. It's also nice to read about the folks out there who are still willing to stop and lend a helping hand. Hope the rest of your weekend goes smoothly!

LOL, detailing the car whilst waiting for help.[8D] Yep, type-B personality. You and I would get along great, Annie (LOL)!
