  • STP changing hands again

Autoline daily reported today that Clorox put STP & Armor All up for sale. The asking price for both is 800 million with sales currently of around 300 million. Seems like STP is bought & sold by companies almost as much as in the parts stores! Anyone have an idea how many times its changed hands since it was part of Studebaker?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is STP oil additive just a gimic or does it actually do an engine good? Wouldnt a heavier viscosity oil accomplish the same thing (with the addition of zinc phosphate)? As for Armor All vinyl protectant, I believe that it is a gimic as the seat on my Honda three wheeler dried out and became brittle within a few years despite treating it with Armor All since it was nearly new. This silicone liquid only made the vinyl shine and smell really bad.

STP was a godsend for Studebaker when their flathead 6's were in production too long and people wanted more out of an engine that couldn't produce....Piston/cylinder/compression breakdown and subsequent oil consumption were underminding sales......thickening up the oil loss helped stem the tide for the OHV engine...which we have talked about as nausea.......

Yes, it may have been discussed in the past, but not everyone has been around for as long as others.

When topics like this come, as they have in the past, they serve as good ticklers for people.
