  • 1955 Speedsters

At the All-American car show today, 8 Studes ranging from 1925 to 1965 attended, (no photos sorry)and one of our members expressed an interest in purchasing a Speedster.

Are there any good ones out there and what price would they fetch, don't think price is an issue as he has 6 cars at present.

Nice, John, So if our member wishes to get such a car how should he proceed? I said he'd be right with someone like you and Sal, who are honest dealers, apart from that I know there is the Speedster website, however it seems risky to buy a car sight unseen from a long way away, though David said he did have a CA contact at one time.

Would think the ideal is for you say to find a car and arrange the shipping etc down here, advice welcome and I'll pass it onto David at the meeting this Wed night.

If I see a nice car, I'll let you know, but I only find maybe one a year. I'd suggest a internet search, might find one at a dealers.

Ah for the good old days. In 1969 or 70 I was driving through Alameda, CA (in my '53 Commander) when I saw a Speedster at a neighborhood gas station. It had a "For Sale" sign in the window so I stopped. It was immaculate (and of course rust free)- had power steering, brakes, windows and seat. Price- $400.

Just keep your eye on ebay, do a search for "studebaker Speedster" in the car section and tag it to send you emails. Some "speedster" ebay listing are completley wrong, as in they're selling a hardtop but it's not a speedster, most of these listing are quickly corrected.

They come up 3-5 times a year on ebay, from ugly basket to fairly pristine and many claim they are 100% authentic but most have several if not many authenticity issues....most can be fixed easily though -keep in that in mind, if you want one because you can't be too choosey. Prices range from $5K for terrible to $30K for great, average price being low 20's.

If you or anyone finds a speedster of another studebaker in Northern CA that would like to have it checked out, I am more than willing to help and do that, just email me through the forum messaging system.
