Sure, Pep Boys or similar import mats.

          Bob,

Some things to consider before your find if so fortunate.

If you are looking for the original floor mat with the S molded into the middle, you might want to forget the quest.

First they are almost impossible to find in NOS condition.

Second due to the age of said mats the chemical compounds utilized to make them will be leaching out of them.......resulting in mats that appear to be coated in oil........no amount of washing will stop this process because the mats are continually drying (rotting) out. Indeed the black Studebaker mats in my Avanti are cracked and split in numerous places and are slick with the oil slime leeching out.

Some years ago I actually found a nos set in a box from Studebaker Int'l when Bill and Lois owned it.........the box was soaked in oil from the mats leeching (out gassing) They were brown and I was going to send to a rubber company to have them copied and reproduced.......until I was told I had to purchase over 1k sets so the project died. I sold the mats to a fellow in the ocean bay chapter outside of Boston, Mass.

              Laemmle,

Thank you for your response and experience. I would still like to get a set of original mats even in the condition you have described. Over the years I have seen several sets in use , without the leach out problem you describe.

I could possibly get some sets reproduced as well.

              Thanks again.

I approached Metro Molded Parts....they said they could do the job but I had to guarantee all those sets.......if you want to go this route you will need to find a MINT or NOS set for them to work from.

Did Studebaker make a carpet set?

There are a few "custom" carpetmat makers out there...look at their ads in various car magazines.
Has anyone thought of having new mats...in the original shape...made from carpet and any Studebaker logos reporoduced with stitching? It might be a nice way to have NOS looks (okay, albeit in carpet, not vinyl) within the realms of practicality.

Could someone post a photo of the original Studebaker mats?

BTW: If anyone gets some made, I'd be interested in a red set...providing they're not stupidly priced because of tooling costs.

That is what I am looking for NOS or Mint.
My back-round and contacts has been in manufacturing accessories for the automotive aftermarket, for a number of years.

                    Thanks again for your response.
