I believe the elephant won being that the chain is connected at a higher point on it than the car. This in turn will pick the back of the car up off the ground leaving the drive wheels spin in mid air. However, if the other elephant drove the car, then I would favor the Studebaker.

Looks to me like the Hawk is chained only to one of the elephants. Depending on that elephant's gender, and what the chain is hooked to, I might favor the Hawk.

Look closer. Many of you know that SDCer Joe Bacon's primary hobby is hunting, and, of course, his most spectacular Studebaker is his two-tone green 1956 Golden Hawk, which would appear like this when photographed in black and white.

A strong case could be made that this image has captured Joe on his way home from a big safari, dragging his catch back to his man-cave for Nancy to clean it. He probably stopped by the circus to win a big, overstuffed teddy bear to entice her to complete the cleaning task with minimum complaining.
