  • Lark vs Valiant

Check out the Lark billboard across from the Plymouth dealer, which is advertising Valiants. It looks like the S-P dealer's used car lot is on the left hand side, the dealership must be behind the camera. Not sure what city this is, it's off another website.[8D]

I have only been there once many years ago, but is that Selma, AL? In the background, that bridgeway looks familiar.

Look again, there is a sign on the corner of the building under the large antenna on top of the next building, it says Leach Used Cars. Neat picture

There's even a 56 or 57 Stude sitting on the used car lot!

Yes the third one from the front is a '57 Stude. Sedan. []

It must be downtown in a fairly large City, because that is a huge one way street!
But what are those microwave Dishes doing on the roof...in 1960? [?]
            They sure aren't for cellphones!

Two cars in from the Jeep looks like either a Hawk or a Speedster, too.

                Cool pic.

There was a '66 Valiant 200 4dr very near me for sale for a number of months just before I went Lark shopping...I flirted with buying that Valiant, and indeed very well might have done so had it been a 2dr. (And would've missed out on two and a half terrific years of SDC and Studebakering. I'm glad that Valiant had two doors too many...)

I did some Googling and found a Leach Pontiac GMC Truck just south of Birmingham, AL, but their website is gone so if it's the same dealer it sounds like they didn't make it through the current unpleasantness.

The building with the dishes also has a large antenna on the roof and what looks like more antennas both on the roof and along side. I wonder if it's the studios for a TV or radio station.

I think it is Fresno California that would be Stanislaus Street The bridge goes over the railroad tracks. The name of the dealer should be Slavich Brothers. Now I was just a kid when it was taken.
                    --------
Go to google maps and put in 2100 Stanislaus Fresno Ca look at that big building the stories count is the same. Let me know what do you think?

At the M Street intersection. The old car dealerships--Slavich Bros. on the left and Leach Motors on the right. The RR overpass in the distance. View ORIGINAL size. I took this because I liked the look of the street after a brief shower had passed over.

I just googled Leach Motors and this came up.

The car just about to crest the top of the bridge in the background is a 50 or 51 Bullet nose Business Coupe. Can't quite tell which year as it is just a little too far away.
                          You guys are great!

I got fooled by the title of the post .... I was expecting to see engine and performance comparisons between Larks and Valiants. I learned to drive on the cousin to the Valiant (Dodge Dart) and my first car that I owned was a 61 Lark VI Regal.

I believe that type of microwave antenna was/is used for long distance telephone service, as well as by radio/TV stations, especially if their antenna was not located at the same location as their studio.
