There was a bad flood in Richmond about a year ago and this 62 GT Hawk was submerged in water. It was auctioned off and a friend, who has his salvage license, bid $2,000.00 for me as a sealed bid. I was out bid, but I don't know how much it went for.

I can tell you one thing, if a car was in flood water deep enough for the engine to be submerged, NEVER try to start it up without completely disassembling and cleaning the engine, transmission and rearend throughly. Flood water is never pure, clean water and is going to have fine silt and clay particles suspended. Even though clay particles are microscopic, they are still nothing but little, tiny pieces of rock. A friend of mine living near Shreveport had his Chevy pickup submerged several years ago when the (Red?) river flooded. Afterwards, he drained the oil, flushed all kinds of diesel fuel through the engine until it came out clean, put in fresh oil and fired it up after draining and cleaning the gas tank. It ran fine...at first. After 500 miles it was blowing oil smoke like a locomotive and the rod bearings were banging something fierce. He pulled the valve covers and said there had to be at least a quart of sand underneith each one which explained the engine's quick demise. So Leonard, the guy that outbid you may have actually done you a big favor.

Yeah, and that water in N.O. wasn't pure by any streach of the imagination. So, even if this car wasn't submerged completely...

The thing I don't get is he wants to START the bidding at 2500.[:0] This car is quite a way from being a good survivor. Oh well, We'll see...
