    I'd take the 4 speed in a heartbeat. It would make it a completely different car. The auto (especially with the second gear start) is a little too "lazy" for me. It makes it more of a "personal luxury car" () instead of a sporty car ().

    The four speeds are so much more fun in them and I know what you mean, my Avanti has alot of little thing which need fixing, but I just love driving it so much im always putting it off haha

            Sorry Dick,I could'nt even begin to put a value on this baby(sky's the limit)as it was my Father's hot rod.and it just can'nt leave the grounds!except maybe when we get it to flyin!!!

                  I like the Powershift in my '64 R-1 Avanti, but I'm lucky enough to have a four-speed R-2 GT Hawk for my high performance fix.

                  Now having said that, no question an Avanti is a much better driving and handling car than a GT. Easily the most modern of any Studebaker...Russ Farris
