  • Since you guys are talking of '66 Commanders....

I found this again on craigslist. It's come and gone quite abit, but it may be a good project to those who like them! It's not too bad on price either, maybe a guy can talk him even further down!

Well maybe, but it looks to me like it's already been driven into the ground:

Looks to me like he is 50% upside down on it.

It would certainly be much more helpful if there was more pics of the engine room, interior, etc.

When I see the word "rare" in an ad, I generally pass it up. With that car being a 4 door he's going to have a problem selling it. We had a nice driver like that here in Florida for $3,000 on CL last year. I don't know if you could get that thing roadworthy for $3 grand.

Too bad about the seller. He paid too much and now says "need at least my money back so no lower than eight firm". Sounds like a newbie to the hobby and unrealistic. Hopefully this one won't be doomed to rot away in the back lot, which is what usually happens in these situations

I am almost tempted to make a phone call about that car and may do so later today. The 'six cylinder with three-speed' is what gets my interest up on it. IF its a 230 engine, then it IS rare! They originally came with automatic only, and later in the model year, made the T-86 transmission available with a 230. There were 71 Commander 4 doors with the 230/3-speed engine and transmission combination.

I don't understand the Topic heading of:"Since you guys are talking of '66 Commanders..." I know that I have been involved in a Topic of 1966 Daytonas, but I don't recall the '66 Commander Topic that you are referring to. I do admit that I didn't bother to do a search and only trusted my memory.

Craig - that is really fascinating information about the 230 6 cylinder cars. I had thought that all 230 6's were automatics, and the '66 sales literature backs this up. Out of curiosity where do you get the production figures from for the 230 6's with a stick shift? Do any come with the three speed overdrive?. How about Daytona's and Cruiser's with this motor/tranny set up? And while you are it at, how many '66's total came with a stick shift? How many with O/D?

I know, so many questions, so little time.

There is a black '66 Commander with a 230 in the storage facility at the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology close to where I live. I'm going to have to check that puppy out see what tranny it has.

Also, are all 66's column shift?

I do not have Sales Letter #254, but I DO have this Addendum explaining it:

Our TW Editor, Art gave us these production figures on the 230 with 3-speed, no O/D. (I underlined it in P6490 Plum)

                          They were ALL column shift.

                              **UPDATE**

I did make a phone call to that number yesterday. It is not a 230 'Super Skybolt' engine, but a 194 instead. Therefore is not exacly a rare one as far as 1966 models go. The serial number is C131085, less than midway through the production year, and would have been before the 3-speed standard was made available on the 230 engine.
