quote: Last time I put an engine in this thing ('96) the front clip was lying about in pieces. This time, I confess, I cheated. I took my portable band saw to the upper part of the radiator frame. I'll weld it back on when the engine's back in

Gez Bob, the six bolts that hold the frame in too much for ya.

OK - Rich, I don't have a PS-equipped Transtar .... YET! But seeing Dave Lester's Goliath in Omaha, I took pitchers![] I happened to have the extra stud-bolts layin' around and figured I'd put them in - just in case. I DO have a PS sector like was used in Goliath, so it's just a matter of gettin' brave and whackin' off the end of the original steering column and doing so in such a way as to retain the stick shift levers and such.

JDP, I don't like the idea of having to realign everything if I unbolt that big rad frame. Silly maybe, but I'm actually thinking about making that upper section I cut off to where I can unbolt it in the future to facilitate work. Might as well plan for the future (however many years that might be) since I figure ol' Pete will be part of my "estate".

As to an "update" Anne, all I did today was knock off the tranny and bellhousing along with small bits an pieces like the mount brackets 'n such. All of a sudden we've got some "family" dropping by for a visit on Friday, so I shift gears now and become homemaker to a degree as well as trying to straighten up a bit after the contractor we had in here last week. I don't mind havin' to do this stuff - it's just that right now I'd rather be concentrating on Pete instead of dolling the place up for my sister-in-law to evaluate.[xx(]

I will say I was amazed at how LITTLE wear there was on the clutch, PP and flywheel! Damned clutch plate looked like I'd put it in last month! And in spite of my most FERVENT wishes, that damned T-85 doesn't weigh any less than it did last time I dealt with it.[xx(]

          1960 Larkvertible V8
          1958 Provincial wagon

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Since you're so good at recording everything and you even have photos, I would sure like to see a story in Turning Wheels about this transplant. I think a few people would read every word.
I may continue to harrass you, Bob.
