1949 Packard the "Flyntstone Flyer" I'm sure we have all seen this before, but still pretty cool.

Was the bumper removed for a reason? It seems like it might hinder any attempt at racing. I don't know anything about this car, or much about racing, but I would assume that the bumper in place would help aerodynamics a bit. (unless it has something to do with that thing under the floorpan behind the front wheels) Either way, an interesting car. Thanks for posting!

This car was in a recent edition of Hot Rod Magazine. The thing behind the front wheels is actually the tip of the exhaust headers. This Packard was a very active drag racer in the gasser classes in the 1960's. It ran a 283 small block Chevy engine. Although it sounds odd to power that big car with that small of a displacement engine, the weight to power classifications in the gasser classes made it competitive. The lack of a front bumper takes weight off of the front thus shifting weight to the rear. It has been restored and is now running in new vintage gasser drags that have become popular lately. I love this car and have always thought a clone for the street would be kinda cool.
