Looks like a great buy.
My collector car price guides all say a R-2 4-speed is the Avanti to own.
If I didn't have one, I'd call you on it.
Good luck with it.
Wasn't there a guy who has advertised in TW looking for an Avanti in the last few months?
Also, there is a dealer ad in Hemmings looking for them.

This is likely worth $20,000. A lot more likely than the turquiose R2 four-speed currently on ebay is worth the $30,000 buy-it-now price. I wonder what color the interior is? Likely to be black or red. Knowing the serial number would let the buyer know if it has drip mouldings and front grill under the bumper.
I would love to consider buying this Avanti but putting out $20,000 without seeing the car is hard for me to do. How much is a train ticket to Martinez anyway? A break from this Iowa winter sounds nice.

I don't know the bus ticket prices. But, I would imagine an SWA flight to Oakland would be the least expensive way to have a look - all things considered.

A plane to Oakland from Cedar Rapids would be about $500 also. Train would take two days each way. That does not sound like any fun. The cheapest air fare has stops in Detroit (that is east of me), Las Vegas and Salt lake City. I've never been to Utah or Navada. For $70 more there is only one stop in Denver. I've been to Colorado once, I stopped at the Denver airport, never left the building but I have been to Colorado.

Train would be $480 round trip. I'll check on SWA to Oakland. What color interior? My gray 63 R1 is red. It came originally from the LA area. I am the third registered owner.

How about the other solution to your problem (that seems obvious to me)? Locate another storage space. Even if you still decide to sell it, I believe that the market in most of the country will be better in about two months (weather).

I have the car temporarily in my daughter's garage. So, I have a little time to market the car. But, knowing I will be parting with it, I wanted to offer it first to club members, where I believe it will find the best home.

Thank you.
My point wasn't to market the car exactly. Rather, I wanted to provide an opportunity for any of the SDC members to have an opportunity before the free market was in the picture. Think of it as insider trading, but legal.

I understand what you're saying...it's nice to offer it here first..especially if you want to find it a good home.quote:Originally posted by fmarshall

Likewise with rare parts, it's good to offer them here before ebay.
You'll (probably
) get a good price, but you'll lose the chance of an obscene profit you can occasionally score on ebay.
Offering cars and parts here is nice...and I certainly appreciate it.
When the time comes to sell mine (in hopefully 20 years or so) I'll offer it here first.

I second the motion by J Boyle regarding giving SDCers a chance at the good stuff first - especially a car like this that has a pretty well established market value and will in no way be an embarrassment. Much appreciated.
