Bam's might be interested in a rare 4 speed Avanti II. ($3500)

I would certainly check the engine numbers and codes to see if it's actually an LT-1. If someone intended to change the engine anyway and wanted the car for the manual tranny, then it's not worth any kind of premium. I doubt if it would be worth any kind of premium if the LT-1 was genuine. A genuine LT-1 wouldn't (or shouldn't) have a/c anyway...it would throw the belts.

I've heard of mythical Avanti II's with factory installed LT-1's...never seen one that was documented as such. I don't see where that makes it a more valuable Avanti but Chevy Nova and Corvette guys would buy a genuine LT-1 in a heartbeat. The car could be worth buying for the 4-speed and sell the LT-1 (if genuine), then drop in a crate engine or part the car out if necessary.

Remember that Nate would build just about anything requested. The build sheet is available for this car through Nostalgic Motors http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Avant...item1c0e437e90

In some of my early AOAI literature there are Avanti II's listed with 283 engines instead of the presumed Corvette 327. My favorite was the factory one off '69 Avanti II with a Paxton on the Corvette 350 - until someone pulled rank and took the car test film on this car of YouTube, it was a hilarious tire burner.

The NY Avanti could be the mythical beast, or it could be real - the factory build sheet will reveal the facts of its birth.

Sounds intriguing. If I could take it on now I would definitely have a look for that price.

1972 LT-1s were offered with AC; rare though!

Yes...'72 Corvette LT-1's were offered with a/c but with a much lower redline. The compression and power ratings were lowered enough by then to make it possible as well. As you said...they are rare as few ordered an LT-1 with a/c.

Take a look at the build sheet they show for a 78. "Install luggage rack with ski adapters". Does anyone have a picture of an Avanti with that option? Even better, with skis on the adapters? I'd love to see how that looked.
