As we continue to work through the process of who, what, where and how of providing a permanent solution to the forum performance problem I am going to conduct an experiment.
If there is, as we suspect, too much forum traffic for the current software, then let's reduce that traffic for a while and see what happens.
Because the SDC's central forum mission is to provide a venue for Studebaker-specific discussions, the considerable traffic from the Stove Huggers forum, while valued and popular, is not essential to the mission. I think we can all agree on that, right?
So, what I'm going to do is temporarily suspend the Stove Huggers Forum for two, maybe three weeks beginning on January 1, so we can get a fair assessment of how that impacts (or doesn't impact) forum performance in terms of time-outs, speed, etc.
If it doesn't help, then I will put Stove Huggers back online after the test. If, however, it does help, then it will remain offline until the permanent solution is implemented.
In two or three weeks I will ask via a post for forum members to report on their forum performance experiences with this temporary arrangement.
I repeat, the Stove Huggers forum is not being eliminated. It's merely being suspended as (1) a test and (2) to hopefully improve the short-term forum performance as we work to provide a permanent and excellent forum experience for everyone.
Again, The Stove Huggers Forum will be turned off on January 1. Please follow the forum rules and avoid non-Studebaker discussions once that happens (otherwise there's no point in doing the test).
I'm cross-posting this in the General, Stove Huggers and SDC forums to get maximum exposure.
Thanks to all for your continued support through this frustrating and inconvenient year. BTW,
