  • Forum experiment starts January 1

As we continue to work through the process of who, what, where and how of providing a permanent solution to the forum performance problem I am going to conduct an experiment.

If there is, as we suspect, too much forum traffic for the current software, then let's reduce that traffic for a while and see what happens.

Because the SDC's central forum mission is to provide a venue for Studebaker-specific discussions, the considerable traffic from the Stove Huggers forum, while valued and popular, is not essential to the mission. I think we can all agree on that, right?

So, what I'm going to do is temporarily suspend the Stove Huggers Forum for two, maybe three weeks beginning on January 1, so we can get a fair assessment of how that impacts (or doesn't impact) forum performance in terms of time-outs, speed, etc.

If it doesn't help, then I will put Stove Huggers back online after the test. If, however, it does help, then it will remain offline until the permanent solution is implemented.

In two or three weeks I will ask via a post for forum members to report on their forum performance experiences with this temporary arrangement.

I repeat, the Stove Huggers forum is not being eliminated. It's merely being suspended as (1) a test and (2) to hopefully improve the short-term forum performance as we work to provide a permanent and excellent forum experience for everyone.

Again, The Stove Huggers Forum will be turned off on January 1. Please follow the forum rules and avoid non-Studebaker discussions once that happens (otherwise there's no point in doing the test).

I'm cross-posting this in the General, Stove Huggers and SDC forums to get maximum exposure.

Thanks to all for your continued support through this frustrating and inconvenient year. BTW,

I wonder if performance would improve if we all went back through our non-archived posts and deleted all of the duplicate photos we've quoted from others' posts?[?]

          Just a thought.

I wondered about all the QUOTES. Just delete all but what you want to talk about. Instead of showing the hole thing.

              And/or all those duplicate posts~
the ones made when the system 'timed out' on the poster
and then they 'refreshed' their screen!!! [:0] [B)]

              It has happened to me.
and I'd like to think I've caught them all, too...

For once, Rich and I are in concurrance. Besides that, there's still a "Stovehuggers" avenue available (UN-moderated no less!) - where one can flail on about things political and religious to their heart's content! It's called alt.autos.studebaker []

Anybody goes over there, tell JT I said "howdy!"

Will do, Bob. Thanks for the update. I just hope it doesn't simply bottle neck the General Studebaker-Specific Forum for a couple weeks since it is often peppered with Stove Hugger-style topic posts by accident as it is.
I think I maybe posted once or twice on the SH Forum, (like my daughter's wedding day) so I'm with you excitingly agreeable guys on that one.
Not a huge loss temporarily, there are other venues for those discussions .
