That thing is okay for what it is, but I object to him calling it a Studebaker. If it looked more like some particular model of Stude it would be different. The builder admitted on another tread months ago that he just picked Studebaker because he needed to call it something.

That's the problem. It's not really an imitation. It is a generic late 30ish design that looks just as much like a Ford or Lincoln. If it was really a close copy of a coupe express I would love it.

                I think that's the first S10 I ever liked.

I Google-imaged '39 CEs; this design does, indeed, reference that truck, but they make a big mistake by moving the grille sections up onto the sides of the hood...makes the resulting rod resemble a '39 Chevy or Ford more than any Studebaker. They'd have done better to aim for the look of the '38 nose. FWIW, I do rather like these neo-CEs, but if I'd the money and the desire to own one, I'd probably modify the nose somewhat to make it more Studelike. An R2 under the hood would be cool too.

Anyone else see the M-series almost as much as a CE in the neo-39's cab profile?? That'd be another way to go...a streetrod variation on the M's very distinctive "pipe organ" front end...

Put a full-size Dodge pickup bed on the back and one might think it's a Champ.

Actually I saw a Chevy LUV pickup (ie. an early 70s Isuzu) arrive at a car show this past summer and briefly thought that was a Champ! At a glance they do look similar. (And of course Stude Canada once came close to Isuzu distribution...so the idea of an "Isuzu Champ" really isn't that farfetched.)

I know what you mean about the Chevy LUV (Light Utility Vehicle?) Isuzu similarity with the Champ. I assume you are reffering to the rear of the door as it is angled. Also, when the LUV's begin to rust, they rust at the rear of the front fenders like a Champ. Looking at the LUV now, I think they are rather nice looking.

                            Brent--

Yep, the angled aft doorframe will have been what made my brain yell "hey, a Champ!" at that show. Regrettably the LUV just sailed on by, never did stop, so I didn't get a pic or any chance to converse with the folks aboard the truck. Hadn't seen a LUV in years.

Y'know, a '66 Commander grille would look nifty in place of the LUV fascia...a few more Stude trim bits and badges, and a nice STUDEBAKER tailgate, and voila, a 1967 Stude Canada Centennial Edition Champ! I'd "LUV" to turn up at M'view, or Reedsville, or wherever, in that...
