One the right hand side of the car where you'll normally guess where the curb is![8D]

In that other thread about 3rd brake lites, I wondered what a period aftermarket 3rd light may look like. Something like these here came to mind....

I have a 1966 JC Whitney catalog in my "library" and looking through there could not find a light intended for center mounting like a modern 3rd light. However, there was a kit with a pair of lights similar to the ones on this hawk, but even more "out there". The drawing showed them on a '57 Chevy fin, fortunately. Looked about a foot long with chrome rings around the red bullet parts like the business end of a buck rogers ray gun [xx(]

In the mid-sixties one time I recall seeing a stuffed dog on the rear parcel shelf in the car ahead of us where its eyes lit up red whenever the driver applied the brakes. I guess one can refer to it as a 'third brake light'.[8D]

I had a set of them that you describe. They came off an amusement park ride. That was before the e-bay days or I would have sold them there for some major bucks. jimmijim

We used to have a meet where all cars were judged for fun. The prizes were usually dollar store stuff. This car could probably qualify for "most original chrome"... "most visible J.C. Whitney parts" and "worst wax job!"

J.C. Whitney had Winky the cat which was as Craig described.
I bought a parts car once that had one of those.

I just gave to a friend of mine 2 stainless air foils as pictured in front of the vent windows of the car in this posting. He is going to put them on his model 1601 8 cyl 1938 Packard coupe. I didn't know what to call them so I had been using the words - wind deflector. Air foil sounds better and makes more sense. jimmijim

You can call it that. It is "foiling" the air...(as in "curses foiled again") or acting as a defector or spoiler.

If you use that term, be sure to make it two words since an airfoil (one word) is the cross section of a wing or rotor blade and is designed to provide lift.
