Remember with seldom-driven cars, the PO may not really know much about its history.
The person I bought my car from had it for 9 years and only put something like 3000 miles on it. So there is a real chance he didn't drive it enough to find out some the stuff he told me, presumably told to him by the guy he bought the car from, was semi-fiction.

The engine he told me that had never been out of the car, and something a very good local old car mechanic also believed, turned out not to be true after the engine was removed for a gasket change that turned into a rebuild.

Too many STM's will just turn one drum and leave the good one alone. Both should be turned to the same size, otherwise heavy use could result in a pull to one side.

PS Even brand new drums should be skimmed. The likelihood that they are out of round is much higher than might be thought.

I bought my car on eBay, but from a first class Elvis impersonator. And, just like Elvis would have treated a friend, he told me the truth...EVERYTHING needed to be replaced! And when I had trouble crossing the border without the correct title, he came to the rescue at his own expense to get me a proper title so the car could get into Canada. Elvis lives, in spirit, anyway.

PO or P.O. is not an acronym.

I thought this thread was about not trusting the Post Office and I was going to share a story regarding that with everyone....

I received an e-mail inquiry about the Elvis impersonator from whom I bought my car (55 Commander hardtop). I guess there is more than one Elvis impersonator out there, who loves Studes, so I want to be clear. This fellow's name was Steve Chuke from Kentucky and he has a web site under that name if anyone cares to check him out. If anyone knows of the others, maybe we could invite them to a meet and get a photo of Studes and Elvis look-a-likes. Wasn't there an episode on Golden Girls...?

...many times a boastful owner will say to a private shop: go ahead and turn them a little beyond the spec...they've got more metal on them than these newer cars..... If I buy a Stude, 1st thing I do the brakes..everything. If the drums have small scorring - Ileave them alone. 50 yr old brakes with a few scores and maybe seeing <5K miles a year is no problem in my book....

I was certainly there. I fell off the back of the stage and dislocated my shoulder and had other injuries. That convention is hard for me to forget. I drove home with one arm bound to my chest.
