I love the 57-61 Hawks.I think if money was no object,I would have a 57 Silver hawk, all Black, with Golden Hawk side trim,R3 supercharged full flow 289 with every performance mod to make it fly,4 speed or 5 speed OD,50's Chrysler wire wheels, wide white radials, twin antennas, nice rumbling dual exhaust, and 61-64 bucket seats. What would you do?[?]

I love finned Hawks, also, but my idea of a perfect Hawk already exists. It is owned by forum member Blackhawk61.

I agree, but I find the 53-55 body style a little more appealing. Maybe that's why I have an R1, 4-speed '55 coupe
A '61 could have come stock with a 4-speed so is pretty nice right from the factory.

- '62 Hawk painted side grilles
- choice of decklid (ribbed Hawk, or smooth '64 Hawk style, not sure which one I would like better)
- '61 bucket seats and interior door panels
- 4 speed
- 372 Packard V8 with dual 4 barrels (using all the weight saving components possible, such as small aluminum alternator, aftermarket aluminum intake adapted to work on Packard V8, adapt an aluminum water pump/manifold like Hot Heads has developed for the early Chrysler Hemis, custom headers, aluminum radiator, etc)
- shiny black paint
- front disc brakes
- heavy duty sway bars front and rear
- rear Avanti-style traction bars

I agree with Leonard! My only change to this 61 would be color. I have seen one of these at several California meets that was a solid cream orange color (One might call it "peach") with the white accent streak. That thing melts me like an orange push-up.
Blackhawk61's hawk is truly mesmerizing tho![8D]
The '57 Silver Hawk I owned for a time was striking in it's original color scheme. It was turquoise and black. I think ALL the two-tones of the mid-50s are enchanting.[^]
One thing I'll say about the side trim of the 57-58 Hawks is that while the G-Hawks maybe had glitzier stuff, that L O N G sweeping beltline moulding that flows from almost the headlite bezel, all the way back to the taillight body - REALLY accentuates the car's appearance.[

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

And I agree with Mr. Biggs.quote: I agree with Leonard! My only change to this 61 would be color.
Here is a 61 Hawk with a later model trunk trim that sort of keeps the theme of the stripe on the 61 fin.

A fellow member of the Long Island Chapter has a black, '61 Hawk, white strip along the side and red interior. What a fantastic looking car. I agree that the '61s are among the prettiest of the Hawks. I would also agree that the '56 Hawk is a looker too.
