As I put it together I thought I should be taking pictures; had no camera with me and, was so happy with progress, could not pause to benefact my brothers and sisters. This assembly sounds complex but is so simple it will be easy for me to disassemble and reassemble with photos, if el-cheapo camera provides adequate images. Bear with me.

The question is if you have an original car why would you want a aftermarket mirror? These cheap Roberk mirrors were everywhere in the day, and did have a neat simple mounting bracket, but look completely wrong on a judged car.

All of the reproduction Studebaker mirrors I have used always worked fine on the left side, the rights were always unnecessary ornaments not needed anyway, so why use one, unless your head does not turn right?

I believe Studebaker International now offers a different mirror head (convex?) for passenger side installations. I havnt tried one yet but it seems to be a logical solution. I only wish that the repo mirrors used stainless steel screws to hold the pivot tight instead of ones that rust & detract from their appearance. I tried replacing the ones on my Champ one by one with stainless, but it doesnt get tight enough like it was originally.

I installed one of the replacement SI right side mirrors heads (with the convex head) on my 65 Cruiser. It was a perfect match and made the mirror completely functional.

I especially like the etching on the mirror "objects in mirror wish they were driving your car".

The original 1953 style exterior mirrors had one or two more adjustment points than the ones that are reproduced to look like the original 1953 mirrors. I am referring to the Strat-O-Styled mirror, AC-2340, double adjustment mirror, $4.50 uninstalled retail price.
I agree. An original is MUCH better than any reproduction of this style that I have seen.

I did the same thing on my Transtar, except I used the convex mirrors on both sides. The mirrors are quite small, so having a convex instead of the regular glass does 3 things:
                1. much wider field of view for both sides of the truck,
                2. the vibration (shaking) of the image in the mirror is eliminated,
                3. I have functional mirrors that look stock for the truck instead of having large aftermarket jobs in order to see anything useful. [^]

With apologies for the quality of the photos (should improve when I receive my Olympus SLR digital 35 year employment gift).

I used a 1/4-20x1/2 set screw. Ground off three threads and welded a washer to the screw for a base flange.

I live by having two mirrors on my car and my truck. I also make sure to have convex mirrors added to be sure to see the blind spots in any situation. It has saved my bacon more times than I can remember.

And here I thought that we were discussing an original double adjustable Strat-O-Styled mirror.
Those aftermarket mirrors were quite common. I may still have an NOS one around here.
