I don't doubt you, or Bill for a second. That flatter front gives it away, you're right. I had forgotten about those. This is why I thought it might be one of those '65-'67 Fiat 850 bodies.

Anyway, quite an Avanti picture. Richard, of course I have that second one hanging up already. [8D]

Bill P.: You mention Geoff Newman in a photo. The second photo RTQ posted (with the Larks) shows Leo Newman (I believe) on the far right with his right hand on a car and his left hand on his side. Geoff was his Son and I don't believe in this picture.

The picture I'm thinking of is from '62 and I think it's in front of the Michigan Ave. address, not the Jefferson Avenue one. I'm curious what was being sold by N&A on Michigan Avenue when Larks were being sold on Jefferson, and at what point Studes went back to being sold at their Michigan Ave. address as is somewhat indicated in RQ's original photo posting ('Save on 1966 Studes').

Both of these photos are terrific! Thanks for posting Richard!

He did say no fewer than 37... I only see 35 in the street, though. 39 total. About the same as Lancaster! That was like Avantifest '08.

Seems hard to believe, but I think Dennis Lambert was probably working for N&A in July '66. Talk about a lifetime of working with and in and around Studebakers!

Sixth one from the left. Appears the "bumper guards" are the rubber pads attached to a piece of metal and mounted in the verticle position.

Funny how we all see different things that catch our individual eye. I instantly saw my beloved '65 Chevy Van that I saved every penny for throughout my senior year, the VW bus I took my driver's test in right next to it, and what looks like a '65 Fiat next to that (or Opel?). A '67 Fiat, very close to that body style, sadly was my first car.
              Perhaps a Renault?

What a great photo...I wonder how many, if any, are (post-Studebaker) Avantis built by Newman & Altman.

Also, the Avanti fifth from the right in the car lot looks like it had its front end repainted or replaced.

If this shot was from July, 1966 were those even being built by then, Andy? I thought they were built in 1967. I'm not not up on the Avanti II facts, that's for sure.

Cool Photos! July of '66, I came back to the USA after duties in the Phillipines and Vietnam. Thought 66 Impalas were cool cars[8D] Ended up buying a godawfully ugly (but CASO-priced) '61 Dodge Seneca 4-dr. My first Stude was 7 years away at that point.[B)]

Wonder what service those cheapie Larks (the ones with the two-tone paint) saw. Taxi, municipal motor pool, ???

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Dave, I'm nearly certain there were just a handful of '65 Avanti II's, but then production ramped up somewhat for '66.

There were 56 serial numbers assigned for 1965 and 60 for 1966. I doubt that that many Avanti IIs were built, especialy for 1965.

I really didn't have any idea they started making those so quickly after the factory closure. [B)] Is this production list accurate?

Love these photos and keep them coming if you will, Mr. Quinn. How about those pizza cutter tires on that first Lark in the second photo? Weren't 6.40X15's stock? Those look even skinnier yet. LH

The numbers of 65 cars listed at the avantisource website looked too high to me, so I looked in the 2009 AOAI (Avanti Owners Assoc. Internbational) Roster.
                            Here's what I found....

Only one 1965 car is listed: RQA-0004

The oldest 66 car listed is RQA-0009, the last is RQA-0042.

While hardly proof, if 45 1965s were in fact built, there would be more in the Avanti club...especially since they'd be coveted "low number" cars.

I think this gives us a better look at what actually was produced...than numbers planned for production by Newman and Altman back when the Avanti II was being launched.

That is why I stated "serial numbers assigned". My best guess at 1965 models produced is nine.
1966s models were supposed to start with 0057.
Those 1966s listed may be 1965s that were first titled/registered as 1966s.
