'Ae - Will found this one a couple weeks ago but it's on the wrong island for either him or me:

I'm still waiting for the Unmolested Barn Find '64 Commander 2dr 259/3OD I just KNOW is waiting for me somewhere over on the Kona side, where it's dry...

Besides: I've got to wonder if the airport-adjacent Hawk might not be a better (if somewhat overpriced) choice: http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/1361745773.html

Not a bad car for the price Brah, but the shipping costs to Maryland would be a mamma-jamma!!!

Why is it that the rust buckets always seem to be the ones with the decent interiors? With the trunk lid looking like that, I shudder to think what condition the floors are in...[}]

That hawk looks like a decent deal. Plus, it's already THERE and not half a big pond away.

Keoni, what's it cost to have a vehicle transported between islands?

Not sure about between islands, but a runner from Oakland, CA to Kauai, Hi cost about the same as having it trucked across the states -about $1,000.

I just shipped a truck over. Delivered it to port in Oakland and had it shipped with Matson.

Also had my motorcycle crated and shipped over as freight. That was a bit more since I pretty much ended up buying the crate. The cost was $1250.

The GT looks like a good buy at a fair price when you take into account the cost of shipping.

Right now Young Brothers is quoting $325 outbound from Honolulu, plus insurance and wharfage - so figure about $500. That's actually better than I expected but it applies only to cars coming from Oahu to one of the neighbor islands and only to RUNNING motor vehicles.

If I wanted to ship an operable car from here to Will on Kaua'i, cost would likely be about double that. The '54 would have to be hazmat inspected and containerized as general freight because it's not self-propelled or registered and that rate schedule is so complicated I'm not sure even they know how to calculate it, but it ain't cheap.

I've decided what I really need over here is a 40' Studebaker Catamaran
