  • Bojangles Robinson with Studebaker police car

I found on eBay a 42 or 46 Studebaker police car with Bojangles looking at a Studebaker Champion NYC.

Bojangles Robinson was born in Richmond, so I drove my Studebaker by the memorial by Bojangles Stature.

Leonard - you always seem to be posting the most extensive library of interesting pictures on the interwebs!

      Hi

Incredibly skilled and talented, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, was a class act all the way. Dancing was very good to him, he was a Duesenberg owner. Specifically, he owned Duesenberg J-559, a JN long-wheelbased Berline by Rollston, one of three so bodied. Subsequently, he had light styling changes by Bohman & Schwartz to modernize the appearance. It's still extant, prefectly restored with a Washington State enthusiast.

To see a tribute to him by Fred Astaire, watch the 1937 Astaire and Rogers movie 'Swingtime' for 'Bojangles of Harlem', one of the most wonderful Art Deco cineramic sequences ever.
In the film, they also use a '35-'36 Auburn convertible sedan during the 'A Fine Romance' sequence. It's a great, very entertaining movie all the way around, score by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields, what more could you ask for!

Wow, a Duesenberg...a man after my own heart! Very talented guy.

56H-Y6 mentions a 35-36 Auburn convertible sedan...I found one in town that's unknown to the old car guys I know.
Some guy has it (along with one of those terrible fixed-headlight 2/3 scale Cord replicas..I remember seeing that at his home 30 years ago) and it never sees the light of day. I happened to drive past his house when he was having the plugs changed. Great car.
Still neat stuff out there to find and see.

I've got Lark tunnel vision, so I'd probably miss it unless the siren went off!
