  • 64 Hawk interior Grill Paint

This is where we are with the front end...If I mask to the center of the mounting holes and paint everything 'inside' flat black, I assume this will be the correct way to do it... not sure about the 'air scoop part'...

Also just discovered I appear to have a grill mesh for a '63, which is slightly different than the required '64..two different part numbers...can someone advise on a possible source for the correct 64 mesh..

    Thanks

'64 grill meshes are hard to find, the '63 can be masked and painted so that only a very close look will tell the difference. I have one like that I will sell if you want. I checked Fred Foxes article in 10/92 TW to confirm my memory about painting the air scoop. He says the 'inner half' of the scoop gets painted, I agree and remember it as basically all of the horizontal surfaces. Does that help?

            Hi Tim..

Am I correct in understanding that the 64 mesh is 'curved' at the edges and appears to sit back into the shell a little bit.??..plus the cross bars are different?

I would like to get the proper one if possible..maybe you can contact me at my e-mail studee64@cogeco.ca and tell me about conditon and a price for yours..

            Thanks,

            Barry

Are you just holding the grille shell up to the hood to see where to paint? If not, I recommend removing, rather than masking, the grille shell before painting.

                    Hi Gary

Yep, just holding it in place to get an idea of what should be painted...JP suggested masking the area to the holes which is the best sounding idea to me..

                    tks

Studee64, the grills were the same stamping, except in '64 the little vertical bars were pushed back about 1/32 inch and painted black. The idea was to accentuate the horizontal lines to go with the bars in the pods by the turn signal lights. I don't believe there are any different curves or set-backs between '64 and '63.
