Oh in the post above I said I saw a post from a grandson of the guy who made the toters? Or was a dealer who sold them.

His post was deleted [:0] But not before I saw his post count of 5 and searched through the 3 pages of posters with 5 posts and recognized the screen name. 492R5, He said to email him, his grandfather had found 6 that he new of.

When I first moved to the central valley about 1990 or so, I spotted an 8E C-cab tractor sitting half disassembled in a country front yard. After a few months I went to investigate.
There was a mexican fella living there and he mechaniced out of his garage. He told me that the Stude had been there when he rented the place and that he knew nothing about it. Told me I could take whatever I wanted from it, and so I did take what I thought I could use or sell.
It had a HD 289 in it, but I can't recall what, if any, tranny it had. Sheet metal and mechanical parts were strewn about the yard and I made at least two trips hauling stuff off. I wish now, I'd just hauled the whole thing off.[V]

        Stu,

That post is in this thread: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...TOPIC_ID=32787

Here is a paste of the post:
        John,
I am the grandson to the original dealer that sold all of these cars. In fact my grandpa, Jim Huntoon still has the book with all the sales of these trucks. He will be able to tell you in great detail everything about these trucks. On something of a side note, they were featured in the Dec 1963 Studebaker News because they had sold so many trucks to Detroiter Mobile Homes based out of St. Louis, MI. Send me an e-mail and I will get you his contact information. It has been somewhat of a goal of his to track down as many of these trucks as possible. I think right now we have already found 6 or so of them.

My grandfather Jim Huntoon was the selling dealer, Huntoon Motor Sales from Alma, MI. The toters were actually taken directly from the factory in South Bend and taken to a factory in Elkhart, IN where the conversion was completed. For those that were wondering, they were all painted white & grey. If there are any more questions on the toters I will try to get you as many answers as possible. If any of you feel that you may have one of the "Huntoon" toters I can confirm if you give me your serial number.

For an additional $9750, you can have a real 1964 Detroiter Mobile Home to pull behind it:

Imagine showing up at a Stude meet with that combo!![:0][^]
