  • Stude. has arrived see pg. 13

What a surprise to see the ad placed by www.studebakerdriversclub.com on page 13 of the July 2009 GoodGuys Goodtimes Gazette (www.good-guys.com).

"ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT A RESTORATION PROJECT ?" this is the headline and the copy follows that of course.

This crossover to the street rod world will be one of the greatest boosts of Studebaker interest in quite some time.

No matter which GoodGuys show we attend our Studebakers always get a lot of interest.

GoodGuys Goodtimes Gazzette does a great job of including Stude. photos of those in attendance at shows accross the country.

Many times the ask for help in "Technical Talk" on this site is covered in the GoodGuys Goodtimes Gazette during the year. Questions answered about AC, overheating, engine swap, paint, etc. etc.

I have pushed for many years to get SDC to advertise in non-traditional places. I suggested GoodGuys, Motor Trend, Car & Driver, etc., instead of the usual Hemmings and Old Cars. I know that advertising in some places is very expensive. An ad could be inserted once or twice per year, not in every issue (I know that some places every issue is about the same cost as three times.) This would expose SDC to a different set of potential members.
I use myself as an example. I learned about SDC in Motor Trend and joined immediately. (I also purchased my 1958 Packard hardtop from a Motor Trend ad.)

This new ad campaign is jumping out of the box for sure !!!

Repetitive small ads will work in the long haul and will expose many more people to the attributes of Studebaker.

GoodGuys is not all street rods as there are many pure classics at the shows too.

These "new" ads could be paid for by vendors also. People always ask, "can you get parts ?". Their endorsement could be several vendors named at the bottom of the ad.

I like it. In my opinion it would be advantagious in future ads in this publication to emphasize that SDC welcomes modified vehicles.

It's a good start. We have been pushing to have more ads in the hot rod publications. I really have fun at Goodguys and have taken different cars. I took the 64 Avanti to the last one here in Scottsdale and a picture of it made the Goodguys magazine. It was the only Avanti at the event drawing a lot of attention. They just announced that there will now be two events in Scottsdale starting in 2010. March and November.

Thanks to those at SDC who were instrumental in making the advertising a reality.

This advertising move will "bring" younger members into the group.

"modified Studebakers welcome" would be a good quote for the advertising campaign or something similar.
