Unless someone knows a history of the background of the photo or the photo, there's not a whole lot to go on. The name and number is missing from the cab, not just Studebaker's but also the company it now serves. However, it is an 0-4-0T, which means it could have served inside of the plant's grounds as a yard or a shop goat. It's small, compact, it has it's water over the boiler(saddles instead of a tender), it has it's coal back behind the cab. This would tell me it was used in an area of close clearances and tight restrictions. The photo also has the Monon name on the hopper next to it(which really isn't alot to go on considering interchanges between rail lines), which may have a slight chance that it's serving a line on the Monon or one of it's affiliates. The boiler numberplate is still present on the front, which looks like #100, so the company may have bought it and pulled all of the identifying tags off of it to use just on the property, except the plate on the front, so it would be Studebaker plant engine #100 0-4-0T. As my signature shows, you never know where railroad engines will end up. The one in the signature served the Elgin quarry soon after the Studebaker plant closed, and then became a display for the city of Bensenville.
It could also still be a Studebaker engine at that point, except it might be serving a nearby mine to run to the factory. Studebaker may have picked it up just to serve around the mine. N&W did the same thing for their railroad tie facility, they just hired on an engine to run around the factory to move cars back and forth.

Unfortunately, at least for me, too many possiblities, not enough information present....
