Actually the technology was sold to the: Studebaker Motor Company, Inc. and that is how they got this idea:

Mobotic a new revolution in the way vehicles are powered and manufactured. This new system could very well change transportation as we know it! It means less dependency on fossil fuels. Vehicles with less parts and less maintenance. The system also reduces production cost which in turn keeps vehicles at a better price rate.
