What was "Special" about this one ?
Usually Post Studebaker Avantis trail Studebaker ones in value by 10's of thousands.
I don't think most of us know of Dave or his Avanti.
UPDATE: Looks like if I had seen THIS, I would have a Clue, it totally "Looks" like a stock Black Studebaker Avanti, minus all the Nameplates and Emblems, not even an Avanti II !
Quote BAT: "This 1973 Avanti II was built by Dave Carnock of Carnock Creations in Des Moines, Iowa, between 2016 and 2023. The car utilizes an Art Morrison Enterprises chassis with tubular front control arms, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and a triangulated four-bar rear suspension, while QA1 coil-over shocks and anti-roll bars are featured at both ends of the vehicle. Power is supplied by a fuel-injected 6.2-liter LS3 V8 crate engine linked to a 4L70E four-speed automatic transmission. The fiberglass body has been refinished in black, and the interior is trimmed in turquoise vinyl. The Ford 9″ rear end contains a limited-slip differential, and other equipment includes Team III 17″ and 18″ aluminum wheels, power-assisted Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, a ceramic-coated exhaust system, round headlight trim, modified bumpers and turn signals, a front air dam, Vintage Air climate control, Dakota Digital instrumentation, a digital stereo, a custom steering wheel on a tilting column, cruise control, and a custom center console."
OR, maybe THIS:

Go to any live auction or auction site and one will very quickly come to understand there are many with so much money "worth" does not enter into it; they want it, they buy it.Originally posted by swvalcon View PostNice looking car and should be very drivable but no where near worth that kind of money.
FWIW, that Avanti cost far more to build than the sale price.

The selling prices that we see today for high end collector cars are just a shadow of what they were twenty years ago. The S Ray Miller collection will probably never be approached again for the number of great cars and the prices that buyers were willing to pay (for Studebakers). Much has changed over the last twenty years in the collector car market and especially for some of the pre-war Classics, not the least of which is the value of the dollar. So when you see the price paid in 2004 remember to value sales in real money terms. A dollar in 2004 is worth $1.72 today.
