  • First drive success!

The new to me 62 Daytona convertible passed it's first test drive! I didn't know how much gas was in it so a 2 mile drive to the nearest gas station was in order. It took all of 1.8 gallons, no telling how much I spilled on the ground but now at least I know it's full! Drove with the top down, even though it's 61 right now but felt great. The engine feels very strong & the shifter isn't as bad as I expected. Oil pressure is very good so it looks like only the gas gauge needs attention.

Great ! Good to hear it all went well with the former SNM '62 Convertible, complete with a "free" 16.2 Gallons of Indiana Gas !
BUT ! Where are the photos ? Did you break your Camera AND your Cellphone ?

More info found last week. the disc brake setup is one of Jim turner's. I spoke with Jim & texted pictures to verify. The Ford rear end has a tag showing it has a 3:73 ratio. It;s not a twin traction so one leg burnouts are the feature of the day. I emptied the trunk & lo & behold the floor is totally rust free! And here I thought that rust was factory installed! Only a few of those drain holes are left open so I'll do a search for some plastic inserts to take care of that.

            Warren,
Burn off that unknown old fuel (as quickly as possible) and refill with some premium, non-ethanol and you will notice a big improvement in how well it runs, not to mention how you saved the fuel pump and related compoenents.
Congrats as it is always great to hear good news stories.

A couple weeks ago I had the convertible at a local car show. One of the attendees noted that it had a plastic fuel filter & it had the beginnings of cracking. I like the glass filters that you can take apart & clean so I ordered 2. Installed it this past weekend. Today the air cleaner adapter ordered from Speedway came but didn't end as I had hoped. I thought I scored while going through air cleaners I found an original 4 barrel air cleaner. But it seems the correct one for this car should have a small detent on the back to clear the hood torsion bars. Oh well, I tried so the aftermarket one went back on.

Small dent sounds like something a few mins with a hammer and sand bag could take care of pretty easily, especially if on the back side where it is hard to even see it.
