  • Hawk front fender vent and heater

On a 60 Hawk Should I leave the outside vent all the time, or close it only when I don’t want fresh air ?if im reading owners manual(after all these years) right the air(when moving) is forced thru the under seat heater core.when the o.s.vent is closed no air enters the duct.with o.s. Vent and inside vent open cold air is delivered to the cabin.do I take it that there is no fan in passenger side heater? The fan switch only works the high and low speed fan on auxilary(d.s.) underseat heater.is this correct or is the passenger side heater fan not working.any help on this guestion would be appreciated.

Yes, there is a fan for the underseat (right side) heater................it is located underneath the right side fender, all the way at the rear.

The Climatizer Heating and Defrosting System works well when you understand it's simple process.

The right, outside Air Door is to be Open pretty much at all times unless you live in Antarctica. You open it and close the inside Door for Heat and open the outside door AND Inside for cooling.

The right side of the column, "Heat" slide control will open the water valve part way for automatically maintained as adjusted, heating OR all the way On or Off if needed.

The left toggle turns the Defrost Fan on High or Low and the right one turns the under seat heater Fan on either high or low.

IF equipped, the Left hand side "Aux" Heater switch should be Under the dash, it is a recirculating heat fan for much colder climates, with No fresh air.

You MAY only need to clean the contacts on your "Air" (Fan) Switch or replace it, work the switch a dozen times.
Check for power in and out of it, Ign. Sw. in ACC. mode, Fan ON High (Up), it also could have a blown fuse.

You open the outside door and open the inside door for fresh air. You can close the inside door and open the outside door for outside - fresh -air thru the heater core under the seat. Open the inside door and close the outside door to 'recirculate inside air thru the heater.Close them when it is raining!

There IS a drain hole in the duct between the outer fender and the cowl.

Where is the heater fan fuse?when I turn on the fan my auxiliary heater runs and nothing from the passenger side.there is no switch under the dash for the driver side fan.did Studebaker opt to not put a fan in passenger side heater core if you got the optional driver side heater, my car was built in Canada.would that make a difference?

It sounds like your car did not, or does not, Have the complete Climatizer System or parts of it.
Did you look for a under seat Heater Core under the Right seat and Fan in the Right Fender ?

OR the Fan is missing, or not working.

Both the Defrost Switch and the Fan (Heater) switches have fuses on the switches.
Canadian Cars are not "different", there just are more with a Left Auxiliary Heater due to the Climate.

Good advice from Rich to clean contacts for the fan switch. It only took me 35 years to finally read the excellent manual description of Climatizer functioning.

A little squirt of di-electric lube and working the switch up and down, and my Hawk had, for the first time since 1985, completely clear windows during a downpour!

They did not want the driver to get warm and snug and sleepy, but it was ok if the passengers fell asleep.
