But what is this seller trying NOT to say here??? "Runs great, but could use some fine tuning."
Anyone wanna interpret that for me?

Here's my interpretation: I'm guessing it's cold-blooded, so hard to start; or maybe stumbles on take-off; or sometimes vapor-locks and stalls. I don't get the feeling that there's anything sinister in that- although I could certainly be wrong.

I do think the seller could have done a much better job of wording that- in particular, described that sentiment in detail. Better yet- for a car of that caliber (and price range), have it "fine-tuned" and running correctly, so one need not make an excuse for it.

You're right on it, though- were I interested I'd absolutely extract a clear, succinct explanation from the seller of just what he means, along with many other thus-far unanswered questions (for a car in that price range)

Yeah - as you say - when figured against the worth of the car, how expensive can a "little fine-tuning" be.

I'm not trying to be a spoiler here. I think the car's beautiful even if it does have little non-stock issues. If I'd won that Mega-Millions last week, there'd be a snipe bid waiting that no one could top. As it is, I've got just enough set aside to pay for my well-deepening project this week.

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

He does have another 58 Packard Wagon; his name is Peter Yanello and he has a company called Filmcars.com - nice fellow. He rents cars for weddings, video shoots, etc. I can only imagine what the reserve is for that beautiful wagon.

          To answer a few questions.....

Q1 To get the dash dome properly there is only one source.....justdashes.com They are not cheap. I just had a full (chrome polishing included) dash done there and it was $900.00

Q2 The individual that owns this Packard Wagon did own the 58 Packard Wagon in New Mexico. He just sold it to an individual in South Carolina. It is currently being restored.

Q3 At this time I am aware of 3 Packard Wagons with the third seat option. This is one of them. I do not have the build sheets on these cars so I do not know if all three are original options.

I have pics of 24 different Packard Wagons. I know of 5 more that I do not have pics on. They are....white one with a gold top in CA, solid park green one in IL, solid surf green one in WI, light blue one in CA, and a dismantled one in FL

I would like to put a website together with all of the pics, but I am sorry many of the owners have shared the pics with me with one stipulation.....I do not post them on a public domain. Until that is all worked out, I need to honor my promise. The end result is that I know of twenty-nine 58 Packard Station Wagons. If you know of any, please let me know the color combos and the State the car is located in and I can advise if it is one on the list. Thank yon

I contacted JustDashes about doing my '57 Packard wagon dash, but they told me they couldn't do it. I wonder why, it's the same one as the '58 I think.

Chip that shocks me! It is not an easy process that is why it costs a ton of money. I wonder why they are not doing them now? Maybe they had some problems.

I'm not too sure of the first one- but I do recall seeing many pictures of a white one with a maroon top that was in Sacto for the International Meet not too many years ago. I was overseas during that show~ sorry. Other folks have photos, though.
The 'light blue' one (that I've posted a few pictures of here in the past) is from Norway. That car was the darker 'Mountain blue' before it was restored to it's current color. If that's the one you're thinking of~ I found it's story and pictures in these places~

Thanks for the other tid-bits of info as well!!! One day when I can get back to it- we'll have to touch bases and add what you have to my "Registy" of '56-'58 Stude/Packard Sedans and Wagons...

StudeDave57 thanks for the info. That car is on the roster. I have a ton of pics that were sent to me during the restoration. I sold a number of parts for this car's restoration to two companies in the U.S. One in PA was did all of the chrome and justdashes.com did the dash. It is a well restored car.

StudeDave57 that is correct. It sold about 8 years ago in Ontario California. It was a solid #3 car with no rust. It needed a total redo due to the sun. I hope it surfaces one day. Thanks for you input on the other Wagons, they are all in the registry.

This auction closes tonight. It will be interesting to see if it makes reserve or even what it will close at.

                                hello group
new member here. I can shed light on the ebay 58 packard wagon in N.Y.
I bought # 116 in 1977 in Lakewood, ca. on Pangborn st. for $600.00 At the time I also owned the 58 H.T. that is on wikipedia, which I still have. In 1979 I was forced to choose which one to keep. The H.T. won the coin toss.
When I bought the wagon it still had the correct cloth interior in it. It was all one color, brown with the grey interior like my H.T.
my hardtop needed the front seat material replaced on the back rest so I kept the material from the third seat of the wagon. I sold the wagon to a man known as "crazy george" from Apple Valley,CA. He has a very large collection of 50's & 60's cars. He was the one who painted it that crazy two tone in your "before" picture. In 1980 he brought it to the LaPalma show painted like that. After that I lost track of it until it showed up on ebay.
                                hope this helps. Alphues
