It's not a Champ pickup, but it is the front half of a Studebaker car with a Dodge pickup bed!

For sale on Minneapolis Craigslist is a 1951 Commander that has been modified. Perhaps it was the inspiration for the 1961 Champs with a Dodge bed? Gotta love how those body lines match up.

We use to call those a farmers budget pickup. My Dad made one out of a old Plymouth. You had to be carefull Taking a Left turn because sometimes the Right door would fly open. Almost lost my brother one day out the door.

It is distressingly interesting somehow. Good idea on that plywood back panel. Really saved some complicated fab work and time on that. Now sure why Studebaker didn't do that with the actual Champs. At least it is all 1 color, so that helps pull the lines together, a lot less noticeable.

Why not? The concept was great; the only thing lacking was the execution. This could certainly be done. I want one!

I have seen a well executed version of this somewhere? If I recall where, I will try to retrieve the image. I like the concept. A continuation of the coupe express idea.

Coach builders used to build "flower cars" for the funeral trade. Looked like a pickup, minus a movable endgate. I have seen Studebaker examples of such.

There was a '55 sedan that was modified into a pickup that kicked around in the North Carolina area about 20 years ago. Looked decent, don't remember what happened to it. Jack White probably remembers............... Bamajak
