  • My supercharged '61 Hawk on Curbside Classics

I took my '61 Hawk on a road trip from Olympia, WA to Eugene, OR, a couple weeks ago for my niece's college graduation. Someone there snapped a few pics and talked with me about it briefly, then said he does a website called Curbside Classics. A piece about it popped up today...and I've never read a theoretically complimentary article full of so many backhanded compliments and insults in my life, hahaha! I mean, he's not wrong. But does he have to point out EVERY misstep that Studebaker made with the C and K coupes?? (Or qualify "young" with "-ish" in reference to me! 😂).
Anyway, thought some people here might enjoy this.

This 1961 Studebaker Hawk is a rolling farrago of contradictions: awesome yet pathetic; innovative yet obsolete; bold yet old; unusual yet all-too familiar; fast yet not competitive; exciting yet sad. […]

Oh, thanks. I put it in the post as a link at first. Just edited my post and put it in as plain text and I think it works?

Back handed insults are the norm for the so called "experts" when talking about Studebakers. These nimrods are so ingrained with their biased opinions that I just consider the source and then go on may way with the thumbs up while driving

Yeah, a lot of classic car folks seem to have a problem giving Studebakers their due. Often because they're just parroting what others have said. This guy, however, seems like he mostly knows what he's talking about; making his writing seem all the more vitriolic.

I wonder how many of these modern experts were actually alive and old enough to judge whether the Hawks were out-of-date or not. I subscribed to most of the big car magazines in those days, and they generally praised the Hawk.

He was being a bit of a wise guy but I think with a twinkle in his eye … and was saying he actually admired the brand and the car in front of him... Either way, your Hawk looks cool and the photos always help promote STUDEBAKER! You did good....

Yeah, I know he appreciated it. Just seems like he's lacking in social graces or something, idk. That first line where he called it "pathetic" was quite off-putting, and just set a tone for the whole thing.
            Anyway, thanks for the compliments!

Yeah, wth? That was both interesting and cringey painful to read all at the same time. And a bit oddly personal, too personal and not needed. Kind of like telling an older person you just met for the first and only time "Happy Birthday you old geezer, glad you are still alive". Thanks, sort of. Guess he thought you were never going to read this? He does seem to know his stuff though to a respectable level, do have to agree.

Yes Dwight. In many cases the temptation is too great to pass up. For those of you south of the border, today is our old Dominion Day (I know the government changed it to Canada Day).

Actually, my parents said the same thing".......don't say anything at all." It is interesting that parents across borders will tell their kids the same thing.
