  • '59 Lark literature slip-up: No two tone paint jobs . . .

I know, other than special fleet orders, Studebaker did not offer any two tone paint schemes on their '59 Lark. However, it seems that slipped through the prof readers in their sales literature, PD-9012.

On the pages featuring the four door sedans - everything looks as it should.

However, on the back page, where all the models are lined up for a photo, the four door sedan has a white top instead of retaining the lower body color.

Either it was too expensive to fix, or they were not too concerned since they did not know how the Larks were going to sell. Any way, thought it was interesting that it slipped through.

Yeah I am sure someone in the Sales and PR Dept. at the Prototype Phase, thought it would be a good idea to build one and sell them in Two tone and the Manufacturing cost control bean counter said NO WAY !

If I recall correctly, we "thought" we (someone here) found that Car ! Or possibly it's clone.

I remember Dad sold one of those '59 Regal Tahiti Coral 4 Doors, that the owner came back to the Parts Dept and ordered another set of rear quarter Mouldings, so he could give it the "Golden Hawk Look", by putting them upside down on the opposite sides, and Painting inside of them White.

I guess it was the same concept as Michael Pink's '61 Cruiser:

That extra side trim and accent paint is about the only way that weird '61 trim seems to make any sense.

The white top on that Lark looks nice!

Many of you will know that I recently sold my '59 Lark, 2 door HT, Regal, V8 Auto which was factory equipped with Tahiti Coral body and Arctic White top. It was a Canadian produced vehicle which may explain the oddity. Even BP commented to me that other than in brochures, he had never personally seen one in that combination.

            Thanks Suzie,
My pics are pretty screwed up. That was before acquiring a perfect set of full wheel covers from Rich and the installation of the correct bumpers. It should make the new owners' a great ride. I posted elsewhere that I just revived the old girl after sitting for a few years.
