  • SDC Show & Swap Meet

I just noticed that the SDC has their annual show and swap meet this weekend in South Bend. I've never been and I think I'm going to make some time to get over there. What kind of turnout do they typically have? Is there a pretty good selection of part/pieces at the swap meet? I'm more looking for design ideas for my Champ restorations, but my parts list is getting longer and longer every day, so if I come across the right items, it would be definitely be worth the trip.

We make the trek from Eastern Pa. Lots of good stuff there. Indiana and you've never been there???? You won't be disappointed!

To make it worse, I'm only an hour from South Bend. I wish I could say I had a good excuse for never getting there, but I don't. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it.

Well, you may regret going... you'll end up going every year. We've been making the drive from Minnesota every year for the last 30.

My van is packed with parts, ready to sell cheap! Nothing is coming back home with me so we are ready to deal! Stop by and say Hi (and buy something)! We will be set up outside first thing Friday morning.

GT hawk dashes with gages, switches, radios, NOS sheet metal, 11" front brake drums and backing plates... lots of decent stuff.

Oh, I wish I was able to go. I planned on it, but my wife had surgery Tuesday and I have to stick around the ranch.

I wasn't able to get over there today but I'm heading over first thing in the morning. I'm looking forward to checking everything out and meeting some other Studebaker owners.

In the days of $49 hotel rooms we'd have so many guys - and some wives - come to SB (and York) that having a quorum for meetings of the Ontario OR Hamilton Chapters was not a problem! l'm 6 1/2 hours away - 13 hours for a round trip if you don't take a wrong exit (been done) or eat /gas up (always done). We did it for years, faithfully!

There was an awards ceremony yesterday outside the old gate house, where a new historic marker was erected. The press photo only showed the front side. If anyone is around there, can they get a photo of both sides? thx

We were at the Meet, but didn't get out t the Dedication, (I was outvoted ) NOW they wish they went.

There are pics of both sides of the Marker on the Studebaker Addicts FB Page Bob.

I made it over to the meet Saturday morning and it was great. Although, I'm not sure the wife is going to allow me to go back next year. I found a Lark for sale that I am now working on buying and met a guy selling a complete engine for one of my trucks. The amount of parts was almost overwhelming. I could have spent all day in there.

I had an unbroken attendance streak from 1979-2013 or so. Things got so crazy at work about 2009, I couldn't arrange the time off anymore, especially Friday. Then, I became a high school band parent and my kids started college. Then, I had 10 1/2 hours of back surgery in 2019 and a heart attack in 2023. Ed Robinson from Valparaiso and I took over running the meet in 2003 and kept it going when there was serious talk of ending it. Probably the best accomplishment of my year as Michiana Chapter President. I always wanted to be retired so I could devote more time. Now that I am retired, I have limited mobility. Hope to make it again on my mobility scooter. I think the move to June was smart and am thankful it is still going.
