  • Roadworthy Rescues: 1947 Champion

New episode of Roadworthy Rescues tonight on Motortrend featured a 1947 Champion getting back on the road from being stored in a container since the 80's. Some of the information shared was wrong, but always nice to see a Studebaker get a full episode to get back on the road. It cleaned up fairly nice and I'm sure many can relate to getting one running after sitting neglected for so long.

I love Roadworthy Rescues and Vice Grip Garage!
Another fun diversion is Dead Dodge Garage on YouTube. He has videos on a Hawk, a Lark and I thinks it's a 1949 Champion.
It's always nice to see someone wrenching on a Studebaker.

I watched the Studebaker episode of Roadworthy Rescues. I chuckled when he said he had owned a couple of Studebakers but then tried to open the hood with the heater knob. He did not seem to know about the hill holder when he was replacing the master brake cylinder. At least he missed an opportunity to mention it. I was surprised when he tossed the old starter through the air, onto the ground instead of setting aside for a core. The thing could have been rebuilt if the housing was not cracked or broken.
All that said, I enjoy that show and laugh at the funny names he gives for things... "sparkalators", "fuel make it happener" etc.

He routinely throws the "battr'y" in the box every time. It's the entertainment factor, and I'll bet he pulls the starter out of the dirt and stores it

I love these videos and find them entertaining and often educational. Junkyards Digs and Revstoration are really good too. It does seem ironic that many of these rescues are cars that are Newer than our Studebakers and ones we old farts still consider β€œnew” cars since we remember those Ford Torinos and Olds 98s in the Showroom.

Great seeing Derek working on Studebakers and giving the brand some attention! πŸ‘ He has a few.

One of the early videos that turned me onto him and Vice Grip Garage, was him working on his 1925 Studebaker truck.
