Coffee & Donuts at Stephen Allen's Studebaker Parts this morning. We put the '47 inside the parts warehouse because why not.

To those who attended, thanks for coming. It was a lot of fun.

Thanks Bob! We actually had attendees from two Canadian provinces, Switzerland, and Colombia, so in a sense it was an "International meet".

SDC rules dictate that the number one goal of an international meet is profitability, and that equates to limitations on what the event can be.

For that reason, we'll never host an official international meet. When we host an event, the only goal is that everyone has a good time.

We'll probably do another one within the next few years. You'll have to come down!

Something Matt didn't include in his comments was that at the Awards Banquet he was awarded with the biggest award of the evening for his dedication to the Studebaker family and his ever willingness to help solve members issues. He is an absolute "jewel" to the Studebaker community and so very deserving of this award. I can't remember the exact title of the award so if someone out there can name it, please do so. Again, congratulations Matt, you truly deserve it!

Maybe: "MOST Helpful Chapter Member" ?
OR: "Most Dedicated to Studebaker and SDC" ?

Thanks Bill.. I'm still a bit surprised, and overwhelmed, by that one.

I was presented with the Dr Robert Cade award. The Central Florida Chapter presents this award to a member of the host chapter of the annual meet being held in the state of Florida (some years there isn't one). I'm not certain of the specific criteria, but it's something along the lines of someone who goes above and beyond within the hobby.

Despite my extensive involvement in this whole Studebaker thing, I've never done it for attention or accolades. My outlook has always been that I'm just having fun.. I certainly never expected to win any sort of award.

In any case.. It is sincerely appreciated.

Seems funny to see George K's 38 with whitewalls. Is that his 59 Silver Hawk in the third pic from the top?

I guess I should say George's used to be cars. Still have not fully digested that he's gone.

Doug's best-of-show Hawk is looking good. My Dad put a set of those weird-looking Goodyear tires on our 62 Dodge. Until I saw Doug's, I had not seen another set in probably sixty years.

Anyway, I'm sorry we missed it. Looks like it was a great show!

I kept seeing a white Mercedes in the parking lot that I thought was yours, but I never saw you and Alice. I was hoping to catch up with you again.

Yes, that's George's Hawk. A few years ago, Stephen hired two very talented guys to work on cars at the shop after Derwood retired. Right now they're in the middle of their 4th full restoration. They both recently decided that it might be time to get a Studebaker of their own, and when I was asked to sell George's 3 Studebakers, it all just fell into place. One bought the Hawk and the other bought the '38. And since I bought George's '62 Daytona, all 3 of his cars are still "together", even though they have different owners.

Both cars have a pretty good home and they'll only get better by being here. I think George would approve.

Bob emptied the trunk of the '38 to clean everything up and found "BARNES - $1.50" written on the back side of the spare tire. Our guess is that's the invoice from when Harry had the tire mounted on the wheel some 60 years ago.

Or, more likely a Tire Repair, because you would leave the loose Wheel and Tire at a Tire Shop for repair and they always had to write that on them to know who owned it with No car involved, in the day that would be the Cost of a "Repair'.

The transmission started slipping on starting out in drive. Better check it out before heading back to South Bend. Dropped the pan and found the front servo broken. Located a new one. Going to pick it up this morning 11/4. Hoping to have it back together and be on the road Tuesday for home. Tuesday. Transmission fixed. On the road.

Thanks for sharing these photos with us, Matt!

As Rich says, it would be nice to have those Studebaker attendance numbers for a zone meet in the Northwest Washington again, but the traffic on the I-5, (and its business loops around Portland and Seattle) is an over-congested 80-mph gateway from California to British Columbia makes it white knuckle driving for almost any vintage car.

Thanks for putting the proper name of the award here Matt. I knew it was the "Cade" award but not the proper name. Again, it was well deserved.

Interesting. I wonder if George ever noticed the "Barnes $1.50" on the spare. I look forward to seeing the 4-speed 62 Daytona back on the road. Keep us posted.

I don't think George ever removed the spare. The writing is on the back of the tire so not visible unless it was out of the car. While we knew it was Harry's car because there are pictures, this is the first "tangible" piece that directly ties Harry's name to the '38. I wish George was around to see it.

Assembling the NOS engine for the Daytona is nearing the top of my to-do list. I'll start a "build thread" here on the forum so everyone can follow along.
