  • Raymond Loewy was so correct.......................

The great man himself was oft quoted with the following concerning the Avanti...............".these cars convey the impression of speed even when standing still."
As I told Jack Vines some time ago, I do not care how fast an Avanti can go, it could have a 4 cylinder engine for all I care, its the gestalt I derive by just driving it or looking at it after I have washed her And my feelings have not changed since 1966 when I purchased her;-) How this car came to be is just "cosmic" as Tom Kellogg quipped.

    For true.

We have a modified Sunbeam Tiger which is really fast, but it doesn't look fast. The Avanti looks "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings at a single bound."

I always keep my cape tucked out of sight when driving an Avanti so as not to give it away.

Iconic is the word to use to describe the designs of Raymond Loewy who was the subject of an editorial in the Providence Journal back in 1986 just after he passed. I wish I knew where that editorial went but after a lifetime of working in over a dozen locations of overseas and domestic employment it appears to be lost for good. I may check on trying to get a copy when I travel to RI in a few weeks as it was well written and accurate.
