Spent much time on here a decade ago. Much effort was spent to avoid tripping the "Politically Correct" button, and making sure we didn't set off a firestorm. Enough said.

I miss the old contributors, no matter their views. Lived through the alt.autos.studebaker days, into this.

I check this site irregularly. It really isn't what it was a decade ago. Miss Bob Palma, etc. Without such insight, we risk becoming like vanilla ice cream.

Still a lot of interesting topics, and good information here. Some of the other social media sites with Studebaker pages, post a fair amount of inaccuracies. I go here on my days off of work and usually come away with plenty to make it worth the time spent.

I just happen to be wearing my alt.autos.studebaker t-shirt, while working in the garage today. I little dirty, but works well on Studebakers!

For true. There aren't enough hours in one's day to attempt to correct the inaccuracies posted on some social media sites.

Having said that, popular attention is moving away from the forum, with its moderators and rules. On social media, all opinions have equal weight and correcting errors can have unintended consequences.

Agreed! Too many rules and regulations here for mine, and many others' liking.

I come here when I need answers to a question. I look at the social media sites when I want to see pictures. Even with my limited knowledge, I can tell some of the stuff posted on social media is not only wrong but sometimes just plain ridiculous.

              Kevin,
Like everything else in life, it has evolved, perhaps just not into what you are looking for. We have some "young'uns" coming up (eg JCole) which have the interest but cannot be expected to have the vast wealth of knowledge as per Bob P. I have a deposit on my '59 Lark Regal Hardtop, V8 Auto from a very young couple (aren't they all these days?) and it is hoped that they will carry the torch forward. The car deserves better than simply sitting dormant in my shop instead of being shown at car shows etc.
As for all this modern social media, I doubt I will ever participate.

I have also been into Studebakers long enough to have once been on the Alt.Autos.Studebakers site for a lot of years. Was really happy when this SDC forum was established, and may even been a strong proponent of same when I was on the board of directors. Was sorry to see that so few SDC members actually use(d) it, and am sorry to see so many old-time members depart. They were/are still an incredible resource that taught me a lot.

I joined the Facebook group a number of years ago as a way to sell some of the late Dan Webber's (RIP) parts. Have stayed a FB member to participate in a medical forum that is focused on some of the ailments that I have. I never had a job where "contacts" made though FB did me any good -- so only use it as an occasional means to give/get information. Am not a regular contributor to the Studebaker group, though a photo posted by Richard Quinn sometimes catches my eye and drags me in. I have two problems with FB: (1) the absolute avalanche of misinformation drives me crazy and sometimes provokes me into (a misguided) attempt to correct the record; and (2) the number of people who view the entire world (including Studebakers) through the lens of their own (often ill-informed) political beliefs, and who cannot discuss anything without including a couple of political comments or cartoons.

I miss Bob Palma a lot. I can't think of anyone else who contributed more to the Studebaker hobby without actually reproducing or selling parts, than Bob. Every question responded to, fully and thoughtfully, never a 'blow off' answer. He had helped me out more times than I could count.

I’ve always enjoyed this Forum. I feel that, despite the loss of some of our most cherished contributors (insert your own memories) it is the best it’s ever been.

Sure we lament the loss of some of our generous contributors, but it feels kind of good shifting into the role of advising.
(Rich PLEASE upload your encyclopedic practical knowledge to the cloud or AI overlord!)

I celebrate the dissolution of unnecessary and unproductive political rants that often alienated our younger generations who show an interest in our niche marque. Ours is a small family that I am grateful our moderators have helped keep together.

RIP BP, Leonard and the rest…we are grateful to pass on what you all taught us.

I don't think we would ever want to go back to the Wild and Woolly, No holds barred, Wild West Shootout days, like the Old Alt Autos type of random Chaos.
THAT would be just like Facebook.

It is My opinion that the SDC Forum has gotten BETTER now than ever before.

Be thankful as I am, that we have an organized, regulated NO "Offensive Remarks" of ANY kind, friendly, easy to manage Website.

I have been really appreciative of the support I have received from the forum to help finish my 64. There is a lot historical information in old posts that Facebook doesn't have. I've found it really cool to see some old posts and questions from my dad before he died. It's almost like he's helping finish the car from the other side.

StudeRich Topper2011 and others who have helped me. Couldn't of done it without you. Thank you very much!
