  • Simple GPS options for '55 Conestoga 12 volt...

I would just like to hear a little about installing a simple GPS for an early '55 Conestoga wagon already modified for 12 volt negative ground... What say you?

Thanks in advance for any and all opinions/experiences...

What sort of GPS are you looking for? Maps/directions? speedo? Yes your phone should do both; my antique I phone will. You can get a "heads up display" speedo to mount on the dash and shine on the windshield for under $15 on ebay. Most gauge makers make GPS speedo's in the standard gauge sizes.

I put a digital GPS speedo that's about 4"x2.25"x.5" that just plugs into a cigar lighter USB adaptor on one of my motorcycles and have a second I use in various cars. It logs a bunch of uneeded crap other than just a speedo too. They were $20-$22 on ebay but the same one was not there anymore last time I looked.

I'm looking for something that will fit the radio slot but also have an optional swing out screen that is 5x7 or so..

If anybody would have something like that, I would think Crutchfield would....but I don't see one.

They do have dash mounts and windshield mounts.

I don't think even a modern radio will fit in a stock Stude dash opening.

I know it won't in a GT dash. There was a "modern" AM/FM radio butchered into the dash of mine when I got it; and it didn't even work. There was an original AM/FM in the trunk, which I put back in but it took a while to find a decent un-butchered overlay panel to cover the oversize hole cut in the original and dash. Thanks Topper! BTW, the original radio works great!

Well, if you want a 5x7 screen I think you will need to mount it in a fabricated console under the dash.
