  • Powered grease guns

I would like to finally purchase a great/powerful battery powered grease gun. Would like to know what you fellows consider well made and excellent tools. I can spend (up to) in the neighborhood of 3-4 hundred dollars. Just so tired of using pump guns that fatigue the heck out of my hands/arms. Thanks in advance for your candid thoughts.

I have a Lincoln with rechargeable battery. Have had it ~20 years (~80 lube jobs). Made in Taiwan, good quality. I think I had to replace the battery once over that period.

I'm not a fan of seldom-used-battery-powered tools. The battery always seems to have failed next time I need to use it. I use an air-powered grease gun, since I always have to have an air compressor anyway.

Ditto on the air power. I use an ancient Lincoln as old as the cars I work on.

Jack I will agree with you, but since I do not have an air compressor I am left with either a hand pump or one of the 20V lithium battery ones.

Or, buy a small portable air compressor…that is enough to power a grease gun.

I'm also an air powered grease gun guy. For what you have to spend you should be able to buy an air compressor a pneumatic grease gun an airhose, grease, a package of red rags and still have money left for a nice dinner when the job is done. I've been using Harbor freight air powered tools daily for almost 40 years and have NEVER had one fail. Even the smallest compressor you can get will be sufficient for a grease gun. I use my baby ones for staple and nail guns too, they don't tend to supply enough air for rotory tools though, drills, grinders etc...

I have a Dewalt battery gun and love it like all my battery powered impacts, drills, etc. No air lines draped over fenders or caught under tires. Of course my situation is different and I am in the shop every day and probably grease some car every third day or so. But it only takes maybe 10 minutes to grease a Packard with Torsion Level. Batteries are rotated around as needed. It's a huge help and has been quite reliable. Your situation is different and you will have to weigh the costs for yourself. Be sure to get one with a nice long hose.

We use both the Dewalt, and the Milwaukee guns at work. Both seem to be good quality, so the decision may come down to whether you have other tools that use the same battery.

                    Sam,
This what I have finally ended up with after being frustrated by short run time, dead batteries etc. from the the cheaper units. There is no substitute for quality and this gun really performs well. I have a Hitachi excavator, many ex-military trucks etc. and this unit is indispensable for servicing these units out in the bush.

Bill this is the exact unit I was considering!......I no longer can lay on my back to effectuate oil changes and lube jobs, I have to bring the Avanti to my buds shop and get on his lift, when he can fit me in:-) Over the many years I know him, he has allowed me to do various things to the Avanti and not charged me, or charged me very little, guess he takes pity on me as I am just a bit shy of 80 yrs old. I greatly appreciate all the feedback!

                        Sam,
I came from having previous electric guns so I was amazed at what a difference a GOOD unit made over the standard fare. I agree about the air powered units but I can't drag air hoses all over our mountain to wherever the equipment which requires lubing is residing.
Another associated product I found is this Lucas Grease :

You probably shouldn't consume lube grease.

We used Ryobi at work and that was in a fertiliser shed where the loader, forks and product handling equipment were lubed every day, with just the one gun, and as far as I know it's still going now, 3 years after I left. (my son in law still works there) I myself always had Milwaukee drills saws ect, so that's what I bought because I already have three batteries, and they are excellent quality but fairly expensive.
