  • Memory Test-1959 Lark

Who recalls any details of a Studebaker Lark ('59 I think) 259 CID single turbo Drag Car from the 1980's. It used to clean up at 1/8 mile drag events.
I would like to revisit any information regarding this car.

Any idea of WHAT part of the Country this Car happened in ?

One of THE Most active areas for Drag Racing would be the Los Angeles area of Southern Calif. but certainly Not the only one.
Southern States had some action going on.

Some of these very common Drag Cars mostly all '59 or '60 Lark 2 door Sedans (Lightest), transitioned from time to time from things like: Dual Quads to Supercharged to Turbo Charged to Dual Turbos, etc. so sometimes Timing of the configuration is also important as is Location.

I remember the one at a South Bend IM meet "Unofficial SDC Drag Race" where a Lark 2 door with a Single Quad 259 normally Aspirated with a custom Ram Induction Intake ran as fast (1/4 Mile) as many R2's in heavier cars !

      Rich,
Thanks for the info. If I recall correctly it was in the east, Kentucky, Tennessee, Carolinas etc. Perhaps my memory will will kick in with more specific info.
      I'll keep in touch.

        Rich,
My archival memory kicked in: Mike Scherer.
Anyone remember what he was doing to achieve such success from such a small displacement.
I would correct my post but it comes up with French icons. computers......

I made that video shown above in 1992 at Music City ( Nashville area ) . That was the year that Ted Harbit promoted , with some help from me , a Stude drag race .
The camera was the VHS heavy thing of the day , and rickety grandstands also made things difficult . That is Mike's car , which he ran quite a lot in those days . Dave levesque
of Steel tech helped on that car a good bit . Dick Datson also was somewhat involved .

Check this video below out , especially if you really want , or need , to see a Studebaker Dump truck racing.......

AND , go here to see some further info on the car . The car was destroyed in a fire at home , years ago .

There's more info on this site , so use the search feature .
