That depends on which Box it was in !
Body Color, Interior Color/Type
Accessory list
Destination
Dealer Name
Shipper Name
If Auto. Trans. was not spelled out somewhere else, then it could be the Ultramatic.
This could be the simpler Vernon Plant POStudeRich
Second Generation Stude Driver,
Proud '54 Starliner Owner
SDC Member Since 1967

I'm not sure where AD might appear on an original 56J Production Order, but if somehow it refers to the transmission. here is some information.
If you have a copy of the original production order from South Bend, the transmission is identified as,- ULTRA TRAN for the Ultramatic (some production orders list this incorrectly as Flight O Matic Tran),
- OD TRAN for the Overdrive transmission.
- There is a transmission box with the words Overdrive STD Automatic. The appropriate transmission will be identified with an X . It may also show 27 for the Overdrive, and 28 for the Automatic. No 1956 Golden Hawks came with the STD identifier as all manual transmission 56Js had the Overdrive.
- I used to list the transmissions as AD Transmission (Ultramatic) or OD Transmission (Overdrive) but I've changed the AD and OD to Ultramatic and Overdrive on my generated production orders. Is that the AD you are asking about?

Thank you Frank, ONCE AGAIN! Yes, I saw AD on a production order on a '56 Golden Hawk at the meet last month in Dubuque, but the car had a clutch pedal and a manual column shift; apparently a conversion. Thanks again! My Vernon built 56J says overdrive on the PO and it is a 3 speed manual w/overdrive.Howard - Los Angeles chapter SDC
