Darn, it is really too bad that Stu Chapman is gone (R.I.P.), I am pretty sure He would actually have known Him.

I don't think that Stu Chapman actually worked for Studebaker. His advertising agency, Chapman Morris Advertising, handled advertising for Studebaker after the move to Hamilton in 1963. As to your specific question, I do not know the exact date of CMA taking over the Studebaker account. We all know that he had the account in March 1966 when Studebaker pulled the plug.

As per Post 25 here: 1963 studebaker avanti giveaway ad - Studebaker Drivers Club Forumhe started working for Studebaker in the summer of 1963. I believe he started Chapman-Morris advertising agency after Studebaker closed their Hamilton operation in 1966.

Could your question be researched and answered by the archivists at the Studebaker Museum? (I have no idea, just putting this here as a possibility.)

Having met Stu Chapman in South Bend, in the 90's, I remember him telling the stories about life with Studebaker and of how he came to work for Studebaker of Canada in Aug. 1963, as Assistant Advertising and Public Relations Director for Studebaker of Canada. He said that all of his friends had told him he was nuts to take the job, because everyone knew Studebaker was on the way out. Less then 3 months, after starting the new job, his boss, The Director, was killed in an Airplane accident. So, he stepped up into the position and Lillian Morris became the Assistant Director.

He and she worked well as a team, and decided to form their own company, which happened after leaving Studebaker. I don't remember when Ms. Morris passed away, but it was some time ago, but last I heard "Chapman and Morris" was still a going concern.

Truly, he was a remarkable and well accomplished man of his times. The last time I spoke with him was in South Bend at the Museum when he introduced his book, "My Father The Car". One of the qualities I liked most about him, was his willingness to take time with anyone that wanted to talk to him about his Studebaker experience. Real down to Earth fella.

Despite having served under Stu as his VP when he was SDC president in the early 1980s, I admit to being unable to remember the details of his chronology with Studebaker. I therefore concede the point to more knowledgeable members on exactly when/if he went to work for Studebaker itself. However, his obit implies that founded Chapman-Morris in 1963.

That is basically what I was trying to say back in Post # 2, I did not know as much about him as Bo, but I knew He Did have a lot to do directly with Studebaker of Canada, so very likely knew of the Man or personally did know him.
A Lot of important to some, history is lost when we are no longer on the Planet.

Hey James, did you get the "Full" SNM "Package" for your Skytop to show first Owner, Dealer etc. ?
There MAY be more interesting info on File there.
