  • It Really Takes Balls!!!!!

At the South Bend Swap Meet this past weekend, some A..hole walked off with a used Hawk Front Fender/Inner Fender from one of the Indoor Vendors!!!!!! He carried it right out the Front Door like the Jack..es who steal stuff at Home Depot and other retailers. The Ladies vending at the stand just inside the front door saw him leaving with it, but they thought he BOUGHT and PAID for it. We left Saturday shortly after noon, so I don't know if he, (hell, maybe IT was a she??? It's hard to tell in today's screwed up world) was caught or turned in. VERY SAD!

Seems like that is what the world has come to. Who would have thought that a guy like that would show up at a Stude swap meet? Wondering if there were any security cameras anywhere on the way out .

I do not think it is unusual....Anymore.
As the Studebaker brand becomes more desirable to the general public, the problems, and attitudes that the general public has are going to come with.
Used to just trust the buyers to send payment. They sound great on the phone. But if I do not know them, the payment process must be completed before the product goes out.

This situation was all too common at the now dead York swap meet:-(..............vendors actually believed that leaving their goods under wraps would be all that was needed to keep their stuff safe, sadly all too many discovered that folks would steal from their own mothers if they could get away with it. Over forty years ago Tony Patane from the LI chapter had very rare disc brake NOS parts "grow feet", that was the last time any of his parts were left on his table when he was not sitting there.

Related short story with a happier ending: About ten years ago I brought some truck heater parts to the Reedsville swap meet. Someone was looking for just one piece of the heater box. I had several extra and told him to just go outside and grab one from the bed of my pickup -- no charge. He obviously did so, as two different people (neither of whom I knew) came running up to my space inside to tell me of the "theft". So there are plenty of good people in SDC, too.

I seem to remember several years ago at one of the meets where somebody stole a very valuable set of wheel opening trim off somebody’s table. I believe it turned out to be another vendor. I know it was a big thing, because one of the previous members of the club here caught the guy doing it or else he would’ve gotten away with it.

I saw a video on YouTube a few weeks ago of a couple of that stole a gigantic big screen TV from Walmart, just put it on a cart and roll it right out the door. They put it in a van and went back in and loaded up another one! Too bad for them, the cops had been called and they showed up as they were heading out the door with the second one, and a bunch of other stuff in the cart to boot. It was mind-boggling to not only see them look the cops right in the eye and lie, even after they were shown video footage of them stealing, but they knew the video would be public and they had absolutely no shame. Getting more and more common these days, Thieves are getting boulder and boulder, because politicians are forcing judges to let criminals get away with things. They just give them a ticket and release them, and they just keep doing it.

My suspicion is that the kind of people doing that is on drugs, even if ever so slightly.

A couple months ago a couple young girls tried to do the same with a big TV here at our Walmart. Unfortunately for them my receipt was being checked by the little guy at the door at the time. They wouldn't show him a receipt and kept pushing through the door, they were actually pushing him along with the TV. I grabbed the end of that TV box and they couldn't move it. (yea, I out weighed that guy by probably 130 lbs)
After some yelling they left without it, clearly a theft in progress.

In NYC shop lifting has ceased being a punishable crime. It is a fools mission to talk about these things, only when those that are responsible for these things are forced to do something via the voters box will things change. In NYS the legislature is basically controlled by Carl Hasty, who for all intents and purposes will not move to lock up most criminals. The City of New York has become a cesspool:-(

I shouldn’t say that without adding this, though. In spite of everything being so sick at the government level, I still love my state. Central New York is where I was born and raised and it’s where I’m staying. It can’t stay this bad forever.

The rot in NYS begins and ends with the legislature, simple as that, ask yourself why thousands have moved out of the state?

San Francisco is no different. Many of the retailers have left. Union square is a ghost town now,all the high end retailers have abandoned SF. Oddly, some retailers have actually just jumped the bay and set up in Oakland.

This is first time I've heard of a Stude guy stealing from a vendor. But a vendor once stole a couple hundred dollars from me, when he short shipped a kit I bought from him on eBay, then lied about it to eBay. That was 2007 and, to me, he's no different than the thief who stole the subject fender last week. Similarly, we've had a few infamous vendors who collected prepayment for goods and/or services, yet never delivered. Luckily, being a small community, it doesn't take long for word to get out about a crooked vendor, but unless someone got the fender thief on video, we may never know who he is.

Sad but true, there's always been thieves among us, even our small, tight knit Studebaker community. The fender thief served as a reminder, lest we forget.

Oh yeah, they walk among us. Sad to say a club member did me in on a pair of bumper guards that I was foolish enough to trust him to pay me for them after I sent them. Good lesson for me about trust. Won't make that mistake again.

It is indeed so sad that thievery has become so common. Even worse that it's happening even at a Studebaker event.

Back at the International meet held in Phoenix at Cardinal Stadium at night there was a 1936 Dictator with the super rare vent wings stolen off the car. The video cameras as I recall did not offer a clear picture. As far as I know, the vermin that stole the glass was never caught.

I remember that incident. Removed from the car while it sat in the parking lot. There ARE some people who are simply not brought up right!

I too remember the theft well. I have always felt that using them would bring immediate suspicion down on whomever showed up with them on a car.

That seems odd to hear of this right after someone here was asking about Inner Fenders on 5/31, I think for a C or K, must be a coincidence.
