This 1968 Avanti II Coupe sounds like pure gold | By Forney Museum of TransportationFacebook | Facebook
Highly modified mechanically from stock, the engine on this 1968 Avanti II is a 383 cu.in., 450 hp, GM Corvette V8 with an Edelbrock 750CFM Carburetor. A 6-speed Tremec T-56 Manual transmission, Moser one-piece axles and Auburn Gear Posi Traction differential transfer that power to the road.
Generously donated as a bequest from Ralph Merril Jr. of Aurora, CO in 2017, this Avanti II is part of the Forney Museum Collection and can be viewed on regular display at the Museum.Last edited by Bob Langer; 05-17-2024, 01:47 PM.Bob Langer

Bob something is very "fishy"........Avanti RQA-0179 is not a 1968, but a 1967. I know, because I owned RQA-0179 in the mid 1970's! The car was white, saddle interior, 327, and 4-speed.
I sold the car to a fellow who lived in Vermont named Fred Munch who was a stagehand. I do not know how long Mr. Munch owned the car, but it was he who eventually sold the car to Mr. Quimby, who sadly re-painted the car black, and changed the interior from a beautiful saddle tan, to "harlot" red;-( . From my limited sleuthing I have discovered the name Damion Cope as the "porported" owner of this car (my car). The plot will become thick and the answer to where my car is now shall continue. As I said at the opening, something is a bit "fishy"

This Avanti is not a 1968, it is a 1967. It has the VIN # of RQA-0179. I know because it used to belong to me in 1976, and I know to who I sold it, and in turn who that person sold it to. Originally white with a saddle interior, and 4-speed T-10 trans.
Ownership from AOA Rosters.
2007 Ralph & Barbara Quimby
Frederick Munch
2009 & 2011 Quimby
2016 Ralph Merrill

Damion Cope is not listed and may be an employee of the museum.
Contact the museum to verify this was your car.
