  • 48 champ starlight rear seat installation

    I'm backkkk. Don't know which will kill me 1st, heart Valve, stent, pacemaker or this car. I really am to old to have just started this hell.
    Anyway I can lay my rear bench seat in and it looks ok but it isn't secure. It pops right out when I get out. How do I install this thing..... securely?

    With the seat in place lift the front of the seat up an inch or so and then force it back and down at the same time and it will lock in place. I usually bump the lower part of the seat with the palm of my hand to force it back.

      There is a small bracket attached to the floor on either side. You have to push the seat back far enough, and then down for the seat frame to engage the brackets.

        If it's been reupholstered including all the padding and foundation, it's going to require all your body strength to push it back far enough, but it WILL go back and catch the brackets.

          3 replies all the same so guess what I'm going to try? As far as seatbelts in place it's a 48
          I do have belts in the front but I'm going to finish the car before I worry about rear passengers who don't ride

              Hmmm, this is an oxymoron. I "found" something in my going left problem. There is a rubber bumper on top of the A arm, at least there's supposed to be. Left one is missing ergo a left side lean which is increased on a right turn. Right one is there ergo no pulling on right side or left turn

                In a normal stance the upper control arm should not sit on that bumper. I would be checking for a weakened spring.

                  Brad, it can't sit on the bumper as the bumper isn't there. Once I get one on there I can start checking springs. Good or bad springs that bumper needs to be installed. I think that will help my severe drift off to the left when I take my hands off the steering wheel.

                    Per Brad’s suggestion above;
                    Is your spring resting on the existing right side bump stop?
                    With the car’s wheels on the ground the spring & right side bump stop should not be touching.
                    Neither should the left spring & (when one IS there)bump stop be in contact when the car is on the ground.
                    If the spring & bump stops ARE always in contact, then something is wrong, most likely a sagged spring pack or a broken leaf.
