  • 57 Golden Hawk...$52,000

Click on this link to see a nice 57 GH for sale in St. Louis.
This dealer buys a lot of his stock at auction, so sometimes it's easy to find out what he paid for a car and learn about retail markups. As an example, the George Barris-modified set of Mustangs built for Sonny & Cher were sold by RM in Florida earlier this month for $198,000, now he's asking $400k for the pair on his site.

Anyone know if this car was sold lately before ending up with this dealer?

I agree with the general philosophy that we should not pick apart cars offered by, or being considered by, private individuals, in the interest of not discouraging anyone.

Dealers, though, are fair game, and I can say that because I am one.

So for over 50 large, the dealer should have fitted this car with, and, at that price, a buyer has a right to expect:

    1. A much more correct supercharger air inlet hose assembly.

    2. A correct steering wheel.

    3. A set of correct exhaust extensions, even if repros.

    4. And $37.50 worth of battery hold-down and J-hooks from Studebaker International, for Pete's sake...(or for anyone else's sake, for that matter, in the event that the ultimate purchaser is not named Peter or some derivative thereof).

The dealer should also disclose what transmission has been fitted to the car, in that it is stated to be a four-speed automatic. Perhaps they are counting Reverse as one gear...not to mention what must surely be the earliest-known factory application of a Paxton supercharger!

That sure is every dollar for the car in today's money, so the presentation -and the car itself- should be without apparent flaw if offered by an established collector-car dealer, as is this one. BP

Pretty pricey GH! -But this one is one of one with the FOUR speed Auto. Transmission! [)]

It actually HAS exhaust Extensions, just not correct! At first I thought they were '55-'56 flared at the top oval Ext's. but looking closer at about four angles, they are not Studebaker, just aftermarket and the rear stone pan is missing.

Can anyone see a FRONT stone pan (air dam)? I can't believe it is tucked up under there that far, with the shadow it's hard to tell.

And that dash looks awfully shiny! Where's the Dash Pad! [:0]

Did those cars have the "Sweepstakes 289" stickers on the valve covers?
