  • Paint Code for 1964 Laguna Blue

The local automotive paint supplier can not seem to cross reference or even get a good match with their scanner. Does anybody have a mix formula or paint code for 1964 Laguna Blue for a Daytona?

    Thanks

Hope this helps your paint suppler

Gave them those numbers but they could not cross reference. They are one of the oldest suppliers in the area and trusted by all the body shops so they know how to match paint.

What did you have them Scan? I don't see how that could miss. Just Mix it to match the Scan and spray out a sample.

Both the hood and the trunk. The say they got a 2.3 reading on their gun. I know it sounds easy but they seem to be having trouble. That is why I am asking if someone has a formula they have used.

Sorry, I was just trying to help.

When I took the paint formulas for my 1941 Commander Skyway Landcruiser, the supplier in Tucson was able to match the dark green and light green for my car. The sticker pasted under the dash board in 1941 was still there and they matched both colors from the formula's on the chart. T he top is the dark green and bottom was the light green.

Has anyone else had any trouble with matching Laguna Blue for a 64 model? Has anyone else used Paintref and had a problem? Thank goodness it is not another color from 64 that was a green tint.

I, too, recently tried to have some Laguna Blue mixed so I could touch up the trunk area in my Cruiser. The O'Reilly I went to couldn't pull any information to mix from the paint ref number-they did say that if I brought in even a gas cap they could scan and match. I did this and the result was unfortunately so off it was not usable. One alternative I'm looking at now is Johnson Auto Supply which claims they can mix automotive paint using year, make, model, and paint code.

TCP Auto Color Library has the 1964 Laguna Blue. They nailed the Saginaw Green and Sonora Beige on my '55 President

Most of the numbers I have are the same as in the link posted above ; but, I have a a couple more more. Not sure if any are good or not but: P-6412 Laguna Blue, Dupont 97089, 97404.

I had a place in Stockton mix me some to hopefully match my car. I had a small painted part with me but it was too small for their "gun" so the guy matched it by eye. I painted both the trunk and under hood with it and it matches perfect... enough. But if painted on the original paint, like where my drivers door and fender come together that somebody bitched up and painted with dark blue rattle can, it's about an eighth shade too light. Not bad for matching a small part by eye, and WAY better than dark blue rattle can! I see it clear as day but nobody has ever mentioned it. If the whole car was painted with it I think it would be fine.

                Bensherb,
Do you know what color (or code) your mixer closely matched up? Like you, I am trying to spray the trunk area so a shade off would work.
                Thanks,
                Rick

"Panel Painting" on even new cars is hard, if not next to impossible. Because of this body shops blend into the next panel to force the eye to believe it's matched. If this was not the case the insurance companies would NEVER pay for such an operation. When I managed a body shop we would get updated & revisions for paint formulas. That was when the colors that were less popular were deleted. The revised formula's had new toners so many colors fell by the wayside.

This is the label on the paint can Rick, but he did do some tweaking.

I guess Warren's comment explains why 90% of cars these days are white, black, or grey!! The actual colors "fell by the wayside". I have noticed there are a few new cars coming in colors again though.

Oh, I only got a pint. It's a single stage topcoat. I did some touch ups, painted the engine compartment and trunk , then painted my modified '69 Mustang/ Torino mirrors and still have about half a can of paint.

The mirrors: You can also see the door edge where it doesn't match really well, but it matches WAY better than what was there and the rest of the paint is at least 45 years old and was never a great paint job even then. BUT, it's the best paint on any car I own, even my modern ones. They stay outside and the sun burned the paint off of them a few years ago.

Love the looks of the mirrors! What are they from? Does the right one have the "objects appear closer" mirror?

              • #11
Warren, the mirrors are from a 1969 Ford Mustang or Torino. Ford used these same "sport mirrors" on many vehicles from the late 60's thru the early 80's. The difference though is that the mirror head is the same but the perch/stand is vehicle specific. I have the same mirrors but from a later '73 to '78 Torino, different perch/stand, on my '73 F100 too. I also used the same mirrors but from a Pinto, yet a different perch, on my 1965 Mustang back in 1976 too.

No, they are not the "objects appear closer" type mirrors. They are the inside adjustable type with the cables though. They're available with both left and right inside adjustable, but, I've never had good luck with the right side one of that type because the cables are only so long and impossible to alter, so I searched for the standard type non remote right mirror. They are available but not as common. I modified the mounting with an aluminum bar I carved to fit between the Stude door and mirror base, (turns out a 225 cubic foot Argon cylinder is the same radius as that part of the Stude door) then bonded to the mirror base with JB Weld and filed smooth. I made a gasket to fit under the mirrors from sheet neoprene. Both right and left mirrors are very useable and can be easily seen through the wing windows, and, both wing windows can be opened as far as they're willing to go without hitting the mirrors.

My '64 Hawk is Laguna blue. Don't have any leftover paint. It came from the local Carquest store. They did not have the recipe. but they did contact the company (Nason which might be made by Dupont) and they were able to provide the exact formula. Looks great.

Couldn't remember what the parent company was--but they can help find the right formula.
